“Dear PoPville,
please be aware MY SPANISH IS NOT PERFECT AND I MIGHT BE WRONG, but…. fyi-
I am dog sitting right now so this morning on our walk I stopped by my apartment to say hi to my cat. on my way out of the building (6:45a) there were four police officers just standing there, waiting to get into the building. no sense of urgency whatsoever, so obviously no one had called them. and at 6:45a they’re clearly trying to surprise someone. after they said hello, I expressed my surprise at seeing four cops outside my building, and I let them in. 14th and Randolph Street, NW – mural now covered by a new building going up next door
“Dear PoPville,
As has been reported recently, there has been increased crime happening on upper 14th street. This involves the sale of drugs, human trafficking, the source of which seems to culminate in front of a few vacant properties along the 3600 & 3800 block of 14th St NW.
This has become a growing problem, and in an effort to figure out what’s going on with these landlords who are just sitting on properties I reached out to the leasing agent of two properties on the 3600 block of 14th st NW between perry and spring which I walk past daily. He mentioned that the landlord is actively trying to find local small businesses to move into these locations and wants to find a great tenant to aide in the continuous improvement of upper 14th st. From a press release:
“ANC 1C Commissioners Disappointed By BZA Decision on Meridian Development Project
Look to Office of Planning and Zoning Commission to Address Ongoing Concerns
The BZA voted on Wednesday, July 25th, to approve two special exceptions for the Meridian development project (BZA App. 19689). ANC1C has opposed this project seven times as it has worked its way through the review process, beginning in 2015. The community’s opposition rests on the size and scope of the project, which would bring 110 luxury residential units, a 9,600 square foot conference center, and underground parking to the currently tree-covered lot in the Meridian Hill Historic District.
ANC1C’s long-standing opposition has been driven by overwhelming community objections and concern’s about the project’s impacts. ANC1C is also concerned that Meridian International, a non-profit leadership organization that is headquartered in the adjacent historic John Russell Pope mansions, is not a private school – a key requirement they must satisfy in order to obtain the relief needed for the conference center. “Underground utilities serving the Meridian Hill fountains have been scanned. Hopefully won’t be long now.”
Ed. Note: Back in May we learned that “The Meridian Hill Park fountains are currently non-functional and in disrepair due to a broken supply waterline”. Updates when the water starts flowing.
Hopefully we’ll get to see this again soon, stay tuned:
