722 7th Street, NW via La Tasca’s Facebook

From La Tasca yesterday:

“The time has come to close La Tasca’s Penn Quarter location. We’re sad to see our DC location go but our Rockville and Alexandria La Tasca locations remain open and vibrant as ever, both with fresh new looks. We hope you’ll visit us there for our signature Spanish tapas and bustling nightlife. (more…)

Update from a reader on scene:

“We were there. The gala was going on at the Portrait Gallery – people were arriving on the red carpet.

Ed. Note: I asked ‘You heard the gunfire? How many shots were there?’

Just one, and saw people running down F From the arena. Police were there shortly after and there were three cars in front of the Gallery Place elevators when we left the sidewalk in front of Zaytinya around 7. Michelle Obama, Hilary Clinton, and many others were expected at NPG that night. The gunfire was right after Jeff Bezos walked inside.

I just checked the details – I took a photo of Bezos arriving at 5:10. It was right after that.

From MPD Sunday:

“This evening around 5:15 PM, First District officers heard the sound of a gunshot near 7th St NW and G St NW. Many officers immediately responded and found evidence of gunfire but, fortunately, no evidence that anyone had been struck. (more…)

“John Wall of the Wizard hangs out at Thai Chili.” inside 701 7th Street, NW via Facebook

“Dear PoPville,

My boyfriend and I ate at Thai Chili near Capital One Arena before the Caps game on October 5. We’ve eaten there sporadically before games, so the wait staff knows us. When we were there, one of the servers told us that this was their last year there and that when hockey season ended (the regular season ends in April; hopefully they’ll be playing into June), they would be leaving. Last week when we spoke about Starbucks closing in Chinatown – lots of folks recommended Chinatown Coffee Co. (among others) as a good alternative. And so it goes.

From an email:

“after an amazing 10 year run, we’ve decided to close our doors and move on. But not before we celebrate our fantastic run this Saturday night, October 5th at 7pm at Chinatown Coffee Co., with musical guest Collider. free admission. Donations accepted for the Patrica Handy Place for Women. (more…)

Thanks to Erin for passing on this upsetting report about an assault at the Navy Yard Metro Stop:

“Glad they arrested the kids but doubtful there will be any follow through. The victim broke his leg but is EXTREMELY lucky that when he landed on the third rail he hit the cover and didn’t get electrocuted. He obviously also could have been hit by a train. These kids should have been charged with attempted murder.”

Fox5 reported:

“The man, who asked not to be identified, said the attack began when a teen slapped him randomly on a train headed toward Gallery Place. He got off at the Navy Yard stop to try and identify the teen who assaulted him and that is when nearly a half dozen teens attack, shoving him into the tracks.

Metro confirmed that Metro Transit Police arrested four juveniles, who now face aggravated assault charges.”
