7th and H Street, NW
“Dear PoPville,
Any idea what work is going on with the Arch (not sure if it is just a quick paint job or a full renovation?) and when it is going to end? Saw this today, and I don’t remember seeing it before.”
From a press release:
“Mayor Muriel Bowser announced that the District will begin conservation work on the iconic Friendship Archway, located at 7th and H Streets NW in historic Chinatown, starting on Monday, June 15, 2020.
“The Friendship Archway represents the strength of our Asian American and Pacific Islander community and celebrates their contributions to the District,” said Mayor Bowser. “This project, on the heels of Asian American and Pacific Island Heritage Month, will ensure the Archway remains an iconic landmark in Chinatown for years to come.”
The multi-agency effort is led by the DC Commission on the Arts and Humanities (CAH), working in partnership with the Mayor’s Office on Asian and Pacific Islander Affairs (MOAPIA), the Department of General Services (DGS), the District Department of Transportation (DDOT), and the Washington Metropolitan Area Regional Transit Authority (WMATA). “Dear PoPville,
I wanted to see if you could post something about a disturbing assault I witnessed yesterday. I’ve seen others post about recent random attacks on joggers and pedestrians in DC. I was on my bike heading southbound on 6th St NW towards Gallery Place at 2:55pm. I approached a stop light at the corner of 6th & I. The 6 & I Synagogue and La Colombe coffee are both at this intersection. My attention was caught by a woman falling on the crosswalk as I slowed down to the light. I then saw a man with an angry look on his face behind her and it immediately dawned on me that he had possibly pushed her. I yelled “Hey” and he shouted “she fell” as he kept walking. (more…)

“Dear PoPville,
First – let me say I am very blessed in these uncertain economic times to be able to work from home. I know how lucky I am!
That being said, the loud construction project in the alley behind my apartment is…less than ideal for concentrating (as is being roused daily by the noise at 6:30am, which is before I think they’re supposed to be allowed to start.) It would be nice to have an end date to look forward to. Does anyone know whether construction projects have to register a sort of proposed ‘end date’ with the city?”

Thanks to Lyndsey for sharing: “I know we all didn’t NEED another reason to love Sixth and I, but here you go anyway.” (more…)
