Thanks to bowtch for sending on Saturday around 5:30pm:

“car drove into a house at 15/U. There was another car involved that I didn’t get in the photo though so just fyi. But somehow the truck ended up where it was.”

Thanks to Blaise for sending photos from Florida Ave NE and 12th Street NE. This was the ghost bike installed after Dave Salovesh was hit and killed here in April. (more…)

Ed. Note: Given the current state of Vision Zero, I say the more traffic lights the merrier.

“Dear PoPville,

I work around 14th and U and the amount of utility construction in the area is nuts. I’m not 100% positive what the end game is supposed to look like, but there are currently six different traffic lights on one corner of 14th and V. There are a lot of similar corners in the area, but this one in particular is egregious.”

11th and Florida Ave, NW

Kristin reported on Saturday: “I passed by there this morning on the way to an event and either they’re renovating (and replacing their sign?) or something’s up.”

I walked past on Saturday too and the place was full so hopefully just getting the sign fixed, again. Collard Green shortage sign was still in effect too. Hopefully the original sign is restored. (more…)

From a press release:

“After a seven-year absence, G. Byron Peck’s Duke Ellington mural has returned to the exterior of the True Reformer Building at 1200 U Street NW.

The mural honors Ellington’s deep ties to the U Street Corridor and sits near his childhood home. Ellington played his first paid performance in the auditorium of the True Reformer Building where the mural now hangs. (more…)

Thanks to Ken for sending: “No more Mediterranean Spot? Or just rebranding?”

Mediterranean Spot opened up at 15th and U St, NW back in August 2012. Previously they were known as 24/Seven located at 1408 U Street. Back in 2013 they added brick pizza ovens at the current location. In May of 2018 we learned that the local ANC had “voted to protest the request for later liquor-service hours.”

Updates as more is known about DC Stone Pizza.

Anyone remember Love Cafe?

1414-1418 U Street, NW

On April 5th we asked What’s going on with District Distilling? on U Street.

District Distilling Company sends via email last night:

“After 3 years in DC’s U Street Corridor at the corner of 14th & U, District Distilling Co. is relocating. While we transition to a new location, our products will continue to be found at your nearest restaurant, bar and liquor store. Please follow us on social media for future updates and announcements.”

They also note: “We are releasing 3 new whiskeys this summer AND more releases to be announced by the year end!!”
