Thanks to Jordan for passing on from Verity Commercial:

“Retail tenant, Rush Bowls, secured its first DC location at 1209 U Street in NW thanks to Oyku Hanna of Verity Commercial. Franchise Owner Onur Can is responsible for bringing this healthy meal-in-a-bowl franchise concept to NW, DC.

“We’re on schedule to open the Rush Bowls’ DC location within the next few months,” says Rush Bowls Franchise Owner Onur Can. “Bringing a healthy food concept to our nation’s capital has been a long-time goal for me. We’re thrilled to have business space that we can grow and thrive in.”

Rush Bowls offers healthy meals in a bowl and smoothies crafted from wholesome ingredients and fruit, topped with crunchy granola and honey that taste delicious.”

Massive news from Washingtonian:

“The U Street Corridor wine bar and restaurant will close on Sunday, November 24, after 12 years of service. The silver lining: owner Paul Carlson says he plans to transform the space–which includes a front patio and rear outdoor bar– into a new concept with his team from nearby all-day cafe and cocktail bar, the Royal.”

Vinoteca launched the local wine bar craze here in 2007. In 2014 they briefly closed for “a little facelift” and in 2018 we heard that they had big renovations plans I don’t think ever happened. Stay tuned for updates as we learn more about the new plans but be sure to stop by before this Sunday if you want one last sip.

Update from Vinoteca:

“Friends, loyal guests, and everyone who has graced us with their presence over the last 12 years. It was 12 years ago this month that we opened our doors, and it is this Sunday that we close this chapter and prepare for the next. Thanks to all who have supported us over the years. And stay tuned to a very exciting new project coming from @paulcarlson05 + @theroyal_dc team in the new year.
.
For now, please come say your farewells starting this Wednesday, with a very special final Flamenco show, and capping off with an all-day brunch on Sunday, “’til the eggs are gone and the Champagne bottles run dry!” (more…)

One reader messaged us: “Sounded like 7-8 shots at 12:30. Cops were running down Florida from 7th.”

Vera sends the above from “in front of the Atlantic Plumbing building in Shaw tonight”

Another reader forwarded a report that the shooting was closer to Florida Ave.

From MPD:

“The Third District is currently investigating a double shooting in the area of 8th Street and V Street NW. Two adults males have been transported to area hospitals with non life threatening injuries.

Anyone with information is asked to call 202-727-9099.”

“Dear PoPville,

I walked by a guy last night on U Street who smiled at me and we both did that rare walking-away-look-back-double-take and I’m kicking myself for not turning back to talk to him! On the off chance that there’s a place people actually still seek out missed connections that is not a dating app, I thought I’d try PoPville.

Think he was wearing a gray shirt with glasses and it was around 12th and U at about 6pm.

If not I think I will have to live with the memory of the feeling of making real human eye contact with a stranger in this age of technology.”

Ed. Note: If this is you, please email [email protected] so I can put you in touch with OP. PoPville is not affiliated with either party, please proceed with any potential connection at your own risk using caution as you would any online encounter. For those curious about past missed connections, some have been made and when possible I’ll try to update when/if more are made.
