“Dear PoPville,

I saw a really cute guy yesterday (Tuesday, October 13) at around 2:45 pm at the 14th St. NW USPS underneath the Municipal Affairs building. He had a skateboard and a very cute gray and white doggy with him. We exchanged looks and commented on the long line, but I chickened out and left without even asking his dog’s name let alone his own name or number! Please help me find the Sk8er Boy, PoPville!”

Ed. Note: If this is you, please email [email protected] so I can put you in touch with OP. PoPville is not affiliated with either party, please proceed with any potential connection at your own risk using caution as you would any online encounter. For those curious about passed missed connections, some have been made and when possibly I’ll try to update when/if more are made.

11th and Vermont Ave, NW

A reader reports: “shots fired around 11 PM last night at 11th and Vermont NW by Logan Circle. Woke up to 4-5 VERY loud, distinct shots, and not seconds later cops were swarming the area. Hard to tell in picture but cops were out with flashlights, seemed like they were looking at cars for bullet holes or casings.” (more…)

“Dear PoPville,

My friend’s Ring video camera caught a man peeping into her windows and trying to record her with his cellphone last night around 11:45PM in the area of 17th and U Streets NW. Her upstairs neighbor told her last week that she saw a man in a green hat (same as the one in the photos) staring into her windows. The man left when her husband walked out onto their balcony. She set up the video camera after that. [See video here.] A police report has been filed.”

Update from MPD:

“MPD seeks assistance in identifying a suspect in a Peeping Tom offense that occurred on 10/7/20 in the 1700 blk of Willard Street, NW.

Have info? Call (202) 727-9099/text 50411”

On Thursday we shared the sad news from the Codmother’s owner Tolga Erbatur, which simply said “Farewell Mother.” I’ll be honest, a part of me was hoping that we’d witness another miracle but alas I was saddened to see:

Thanks to Diego (and everyone else) who sent The Codmother’s legendary playlist preserved on Spotify.

One last look at the poster for posterity: (more…)

1115 U Street, NW

Thanks to Stephanie for passing on from U Street Music Hall:

“Dear U Hall friends and family,

There is no easy way to say this, but here we go: It is with tremendous sadness that we share with you today that U Street Music Hall is closing effective immediately.

When we closed our doors to the public this past March, just days before we were to celebrate our club’s 10-year anniversary, none of us could have imagined at the time that we would still be closed nearly seven months later with no return date in sight because of an unrelenting disease called COVID-19. But we kept our hopes up even in the face of an impossible situation because we love what we do so much: presenting the best music in the world for the best fans in the world. It was our mission to return. (more…)
