In January we talked about the difficulty in selling these units. Thanks to a reader for sending word that a 2nd unit is now under contract. The 2 bed/2.5 bath was listed at $799,000. Will update when the final price is known.

Despite the cold in the air, another annual sign that spring is around the corner from Garden District (formerly Standard):
“in the fall we said we would re-open for the spring on march 1st, but this year we’re going to do even better than that.
we’re firing up the smoker tonight, opening up the gates [Saturday] at noon, and we are guaranteeing that the beer will be ice cold.
also, to celebrate our 5th year in the neighborhood, we’ll be selling $5 hofbraus and bratwursts all season long during the 5 o’clock hour monday through friday.”

“Dear PoPville,
On my way to work this morning, I noticed the sign was removed with a “for lease” banner put up. Also, the last couple of nights, it has been closed. What’s odd is the tables are still set up…”
I stopped by The Islander when I first noticed the sign was gone a few months ago and was told the sign simply broke. The for lease sign was for the upstairs space. For a second I was nervous because their telephone number was disconnected. But I stopped by today and they were indeed still open!
Their website says:
“The Islander is a family-owned and operated business with ” The Queen,” Chef Addie Green ruling this island kingdom. We believe she’s undoubtedly the best Caribbean cook in Washington, DC. The Islander is a landmark in the Caribbean Community and the Green family has collectively provided the finest in Trinidadian cuisine to the Washington Community for the past 40 years.

From a press release:
“pro·vi·sion (verb) “supply with food, drink, or equipment, especially for a journey.” Dramatic floor-to-ceiling windows and a design that melds the nostalgia of early American charm with wanderlust warmth, set a stunning backdrop for a comprehensive program of libations and creative, communal cuisine at the soon-to-open new Provision No. 14. Occupying an impressive corner space on 14th & V NW, Provision No. 14 is the first project from the newly formed Social Restaurant Group, and is projected to open in late March 2015.
The culinary program at Provision No. 14 will well complement its energetic design, featuring a menu of communal, creative American cuisine designed to be shared at the table among friends. The menu will feature a list of updated, modern takes on classic fondues and a snack menu composed of several playful dishes. Guests are encouraged to taste a wide selection of snack plates and experience the array of fun foods. Provision No. 14’s menu will also feature a selection of daily rotating communal boards, a raw cut wood plank featuring an entrée, and complementing side dishes ideal for sharing.
Featuring 20 draft lines, a beer program that curates small-batch brewers from around the globe and large format bottled cocktails, Provision No. 14 shares a thoughtful and comprehensive beverage program with a diverse selection of uniquely dynamic libations. A hallmark of Provision No. 14’s beverage program will be a selection of no less than six large format bottled cocktails, ideal for sharing. The bottled cocktails will be 750 ml, the same as a bottle of wine, offering a fun alternative to the standard shared beverage. Provision No. 14’s beverage program will also feature two draft cocktails, two well-crafted frozen cocktails and a menu of signature cocktails. (more…)

Very cool! On their facebook page Martha’s Outfitters explains:
“Students from DC Public Schools Duke Ellington School of the Arts played tunes and helped paint our new mural designed by John Cahill and Meaza Yalew.”
For those not familiar with this great org.
“Martha’s Outfitters is a Non-Profit thrift store aimed at helping the community. All proceeds Martha’s Outfitters receives goes toward Martha’s Table’s food and children programs.”
