I love never running out of reasons to love this place:

Big 14th and U Street news from the Washington Post:
“Den of Thieves, the intimate DJ bar located near the corner of 14th and U streets NW, will close after New Year’s Eve.
A new tenant is leasing the space from current owner Eric Hilton and his partners, beginning in January.”
2005 14th Street was born as Blackbyrd in 2011 then turned into Hanoi House then the Maketto residency before becoming Den of Thieves. More info on plans for the new spot coming in January.

This mural was done by Eric B. It’s located across the alley from Ben’s Next Door on 1200 block of U Street, NW.

A reader writes in:
“Just wanted to send you these photos from last week’s U Street fire. As you can see, things are… Not good. They don’t think anyone will be allowed to live in the building at least until next week and that residents in the 12th Street side of the building should be making alternative plans for at least another month.”

This is the former Dr. K’s Vintage Clothing store that closed back in October 2014. Now it’s going to be Salon Quency.
Last month we learned that Bespoke Hair Studio was opening in the former Zina Clothing Boutique space at 1526 U St, NW.

Eatonville got rave reviews when they first opened back in 2009 – but now a transformation is coming in late January – Eatonville posts on their Facebook page:

Thanks to Nicole for writing: “looks like new cycle place coming to Vida bldg where spa was.”
I also took a few photos over the weekend. Cycling studios are getting pretty strong on U Street – a SoulCycle just opened at 14th and U St, NW and of course Off Road Indoor Cycling has been open for a few years at 9th and U – though Ride DC did close at 14th and Florida.

Thanks to Andrew for sending Sunday morning:
“The hottest club right now in DC? #traderjoes on 14th. There’s a line to get in!”

“Dear PoPville,
I am one of the residents that lives in the Lincoln Condominiums on 12th Street where we had the fire on Friday. The entire building is uninhabitable due to the fire damage and extensive water and smoke damage. While we were in a time of need on Friday during the day, watching the building burn, Ben’s Next Door graciously hosted us. After being in the cold for over four hours, we asked several businesses around us for help and Ben’s Next Door came through. They were so nice and helpful, welcomed us with open arms and immediately started bringing us drinks and food. I cannot express how much we appreciated this gesture. In addition, everything was on them. It was a little comfort when we needed it most.”
