Yuri writes last week:

“We were walking through Fort Reno park and the grass was alive with emerging cicada nymphs. Here are some photographs of one that emerged an hour or two ago. These appear to be a different species than the ones that typically emerge in June/July.”

If you spot a hawk or any other bird of prey or any interesting wildlife around town, lunching or otherwise, and get a good photo please send in an email where you spotted it to [email protected] and I’ll add it to the queue. Hawks around Town is made possible by a generous grant from the Ben and Sylvia Gardner foundation.

More photos after the jump. (more…)

Washington Business Journal with the massive potential news:

“Roadside Development is in talks with the popular grocer [Wegmans] to anchor its planned redevelopment of Fannie Mae’s longtime home once it relocates for a new headquarters at Carr Properties’ Midtown Center, according to sources familiar with the situation.”

WBJ also quotes Roadside Development Principal Richard Lake as saying: “We would be very pleased if they became one of our tenants, but I cannot confirm that we have a deal because we just don’t. We’re in conversations with a number of folks.”

Ed. Note: So you’re saying I’ve got a chance?!?!? Good enough for me. Dear God please make this happen.

The Tenleytown listserv getting, uh, active Sunday/today with:

“Your Dog Sh*t on my Lawn

and I caught you on video tape! Hey ***hole! Its not bad enough that your dog shit on my lawn you looked around to see if anybody was watching.

Enjoy and please let him know he is welcome to stop by and pick up his dog shit whenever he wants!”

Hopefully this voice of reason prevails:

“We’re all adults here…

Could the complaint have been raised more tactfully? Of course.

But the complaint is a valid one, and the owner of the dog should be chastised; it just could have been done in a more PG way. I have little kids that love to play on our lawn and I would be really pissed (no up intended) if some dog did its business on my lawn, much less if the owner left it there. There are laws for a reason.

Anyway, I’d love to propose that we not spend the next 24 hours each chastising the other or picking fights. Tomorrow is the first day of Spring, so let’s all think happy thoughts.”

Ed. Note: But seriously, pick up the poop, man.

Welp, I feel asleep at the wheel again! Tenleytown Main Street reports:

“Joining popular local chain District Taco, which brought casual Yucatan-inspired fare to Tenleytown last fall, are two other international-flavored, fast casual restaurants. SeoulSpice will introduce healthy Korean comfort food to the neighborhood, with a menu that includes classic rice bowls and Korean-style burritos. Next door, Muncheez will offer Lebanese street food ranging from shawarma to falafel to zaatar.”

And to work off those meals, TMS, reports an Orangetheory Fitness is coming too.

At long last a replacement for Fire Lake Grill?

Before Fire Lake, this was a Ruby Tuesdays. And for a hot second it looked like Guapo’s would be moving here. Updates if/as construction progresses.
