“Discovery, Inc. announced today it has signed a lease on a 60,000 sq. ft. space with Brookfield Properties’ Silver Spring Metro Plaza in Silver Spring to be the home for Discovery’s new Maryland Network Hub. Located at 8403 Colesville Road, The Hub will house select network and support functions, as well as select other functions such as government relations, that are logically based in the Metropolitan DC area. “Almost three years after a fire closed Silver Spring’s beloved Quarry House Tavern [8401 Georgia Ave.], the 1930s-era dive bar is set to reopen to the public on Sunday. After a careful restoration, it looks just like regulars will remember, if slightly cleaner.”

Contingent upon the closing of the company’s acquisition of Scripps Networks Interactive, Discovery also will establish a National Operations Headquarters at Scripps’ current campus in Knoxville, Tennessee.
“The media industry is rapidly evolving, increasingly global, more consumer focused and more multi-platform and Discovery must evolve with it,” said David Zaslav, Discovery’s President and CEO, in announcing the changes first to employees this morning. “The decision to move our global headquarters from its founding home is one we do not make lightly. “My 18-year-old cat has been missing since Saturday morning. She was spotted two streets down and someone called animal control, but animal control did not take her into custody. She should still be in our South Four Corners neighborhood, which is close to Holy Cross Hospital and Sligo Creek Park. I’ve had her since high school, and I’m devastated by her disappearance.
Details – Black, orange, and white calico. She’s about 5 lbs, has a little black “beauty mark” by her nose, and a white belly. Arthritic hind legs and deaf – once again, she’s very old for a cat.”

“I recently stayed at the Double Tree motel in Silver Spring, MD and this peregrine falcon is nesting right outside the window on the 12th floor and currently has 4 eggs. It was a treat to observe this beautiful creature up close for the 4 days that I was there. I mentioned it at the front desk–they knew about the falcon but were unaware of the eggs.”
