But all will be forgiven if you are legit. Wet Dog Tavern looked super close to opening back in November. Their last Facebook update was written Dec. 7th:

“…We have a great relationship with our PA brewery and they’re willing to craft and customize great beers for us. We love their product and are looking forward to introducing another great brand to the city. We are prideful neighbors, we are DC lifers… and, we are frequent travelers. We do plan to carry a few locals, since of course, who wouldn’t?! Our plan, however is to not JUST carry local beers or base the majority of our list on them. Over the past 2-3 years of dining and drinking around the city, especially the U St. & 14th St. corridor, we tend to find the same 4-5 local brews on beer lists/taps, which for some people is great, but we at Wet Dog would like to offer a little more. Fasika Ethiopian Restaurant opens on 9th Street in Shaw

Right above Appioo African/Ghanian restaurant.  I wonder if it’s the same folks from the Fasika that closed at 4422 Georgia Ave, NW in Petworth?

Fasika’s website says:

“Best Ethiopian Cuisine in Washington, DC, variety of vegetarian dishes, often very spicy and mild meat dishes, mainly chicken, beef, lamb and fish. Fasika is conveniently located in the U Street Corridor of Washington DC.”

“The Washington Blade in partnership with DC Brau, Absolut Vodka, Tequila Avión, Jameson Irish Whiskey and Town Danceboutique are hosting the Love Trumps Hate Rainbow Bash on Thursday, January 19th from 9PM-1AM. DJ’s Keenan Orr and Tim Jackson will provide music and dancing. Town Danceboutique is located at 2009 8th St NW, Washington, DC 20001.

All proceeds of the ticket and raffle sales will benefit three local non-profits that embrace environmental, healthcare and LGBT issues.

In recent years the small club has seen their membership decline. As gentrification seems ever encroaching, it is becoming harder to stay in their current location of the Shaw neighborhood. They are looking to draw a younger generation of people to join their club and play the game they love.

The checkers club adds a unique character to the neighborhood. With nicknames such as The Razor, The Z-Man, Pressure Man, Hard Rock, Special-K and many more; there is never a dull moment at Capital Pool Checkers.
