Thanks to all who emailed the new signage above El Sol, formerly El Sauce next to the Capital Market grocery store. We’ve been waiting since 2014 for Phonation to open their brick and mortar. Their facebook still has “Tentative opening date is February 2015…” but should be any day now! Stay tuned for an exact opening date.

Thanks to all who sent emails/tweets/messages. The Washingtonian reported:
“Two and a half months after opening and less than two weeks after slashing prices, the Shaw Bijou has closed.”
I feel neither joy or pain. I feel nothing. Though I do feel bad for those who poured their hearts into it. Wishing better luck in their next endeavor. Updates when we learn what becomes of the space.

Update from MPD:
“Earlier this afternoon, members of the Third District responded to the area of 7th and O Streets NW in reference to the sounds of gunshots. Arriving units observed a vehicle fleeing the area. The vehicle fled toward the area of NJ and O Street NW, where the occupants exited the vehicle and fled on foot. No victims were located, but there were some vehicles struck by the gunfire. As a result of the investigation, we recovered three handguns and arrested an adult male in this incident. The investigation is continuing to identify any others involved.
In addition, we are working to determine if this incident has any relation to the shooting earlier today at 8th and R Streets NW.
Anyone with information on either of these incidents is asked to call 202-727-9099.”
From MPD:
“Units from the Third District are currently in the area of the 800 block of S street NW in reference to the sounds of gunshots. No evidence has been recovered there. However, a few minutes after that call, a male victim arrived at an area hospital with what appears to be a gunshot wound to the stomach. Detectives and officers are trying to determine if these are related incidents at this time.
Anyone with information is asked to call 202-727-9099.”
Update: Multiple readers report, shots fired (up to 20) all over the area.
Updated photos from readers (unclear if any or all are related to incident at 8th and S St, NW):

But all will be forgiven if you are legit. Wet Dog Tavern looked super close to opening back in November. Their last Facebook update was written Dec. 7th:
“…We have a great relationship with our PA brewery and they’re willing to craft and customize great beers for us. We love their product and are looking forward to introducing another great brand to the city. We are prideful neighbors, we are DC lifers… and, we are frequent travelers. We do plan to carry a few locals, since of course, who wouldn’t?! Our plan, however is to not JUST carry local beers or base the majority of our list on them. Over the past 2-3 years of dining and drinking around the city, especially the U St. & 14th St. corridor, we tend to find the same 4-5 local brews on beer lists/taps, which for some people is great, but we at Wet Dog would like to offer a little more. This is the former the former Azi’s Cafe space (and briefly Caribbean Citations after Azi’s). Piassa opened up back in July 2015. Updates as we learn the new plans for the space.

Right above Appioo African/Ghanian restaurant. I wonder if it’s the same folks from the Fasika that closed at 4422 Georgia Ave, NW in Petworth?
Fasika’s website says:
“Best Ethiopian Cuisine in Washington, DC, variety of vegetarian dishes, often very spicy and mild meat dishes, mainly chicken, beef, lamb and fish. Fasika is conveniently located in the U Street Corridor of Washington DC.”
Check out their menu here.
