“A Vegas Wedding for Charity at the Hot Dog House of Matrimony THURSDAY, JUNE 21st 2018

Ivy and Coney, located at 1537 7th St NW and DC’s #1 Underground Engagement Ring Reseller for five years running, is proud to present it’s latest creation, Vegas Wedding at the Hot Dog House of Matrimony. In a year where the world has turned its attention to nuptials across the pond, we are here to remind people of America’s greatest contribution to marriage, being wed on the fly with no regard for any sort of commitment or future together. Nothing shows our freedom and frivolity more than by getting married to that stranger you met at the casino four hours ago with a ceremony overseen by Elvis as your closest slot machine friends cry and hoot and holler. And we will not stand for this English aggression on our limited attention spans. This most splendid of occasions started on May 19th (there’s nothing happening that day, right?) and concludes on June 21st with an all out debaucherous final “reception” for charity.

ON JUNE 21ST, The Lord Lieutenant Head Groundskeeper, invites you to cap off this shitshow extravaganza with our annual Charity Gala in support of Bread for the City. All commoners welcome! There will be craps. There will be champagne. There will be blackjack. There will be fantastic raffle prizes. And hopefully, fingers crossed, we will all get to enjoy in the wedding of the first random couple crazy enough to participate in this nonsense. As in years past, 100% of tips and call proceeds go to our amazing friends at Bread for the City, helping them do great work for those in need in DC. TICKETS CAN BE PURCHASED HERE. (more…)

Or so I’m told. Back in May I shared some scuttlebutt that a Japanese concept from the owners of Chaplin’s was coming to the former Shaw’s Bijou/French Quarter Brasserie space.  French Quarter Brasserie closed in January and Shaw Bijou closed in January of 2017. Chaplin’s is located down the street at 9th and P Street, NW and opened back in 2014. I know hear it’ll be called Zeppelin and should open in a couple of months. STAY TUNED.

The developers and the representatives of Advisory Neighborhood Commission (ANC) 1B/U Street agree that they would be happy enough to get something, anything, built at 1914 8th Street NW to improve the crumbling eyesore of a building that is there now. The property was on the agenda of ANC1B’s Zoning, Preservation, & Development Committee meeting on June 18.

“I just want to see it done,” said Commissioner Jerry Johnson (district 02). The property in question is in Johnson’s district.

“It’s ridiculous that you have to go through so many layers of stupidity,” said another member of the committee, concerning the developer’s trip through the DC city bureaucracy.

“At this point, he just wants to build something,” said Armstrong Kassa, representative of developers SGA Companies, Inc., and of the owner of the building.

The developer would be more than happy to construct a building that would add a few more housing units to a high density area within two blocks of a metro station and a stone’s throw from U Street. (more…)

Nice little update from San Lorenzo Ristorante + Bar’s Facebook on Sunday:

“We’re getting closer and closer to opening! We still have to do some finishing touches, train staff, get final permits, etc… but hopefully in about a week and a half, we’ll open our doors to serve you! In the meantime, here’s what you can expect to see inside of San Lorenzo!!!” (more…)

Total Occupancy Load of 128. The Licensee is also requesting an Entertainment Endorsement to include Live Entertainment, both indoors and outdoors, as well as a Cover Charge, and Dancing.”

Oooh here’s some tasty scuttlebutt:

Union Kitchen grocery will be taking over the closed Glen’s Garden Market as early as late summer/Fall.”

Ed. Note: I give this scuttlebutt an 85% accuracy rating. STAY TUNED.
