Damn it, the curse of the Blue Banana is back. From Walters:

Walters Sports Bar closing 12/31. The team behind Walters would like to thank everyone over the last 2+ years for your support. While we would like to stick around for another Caps and Wizards playoffs run we can’t in good conscience be apart of a potential Eagles Super Bowl win (Kidding….maybe). With that said Walters will be closing 12/31 and we encourage everyone to visit Looking Glass and DC Reynolds for all your future sports watching needs. (more…)

Shooting 12.26.17

“Dear PoPville,

Since i didn’t see this reported on the MPD alerts yesterday (or popville), thought i’d send it in.

I witnessed this shooting December 26th (yes, called it in); the footage is from our porch camera on New Hampshire near Spring Rd NW. Spoke at length with the officers, all 3 individuals were picked up a short time later (shooter and 2 fleeing). No one was wounded, and somehow no cars were hit either. This may have been part of a feuding gang battle last night in Park View / Columbia Heights / Petworth (specifically the shooting on Warder).”

paper in window only has a tantalizing “Coming Soon”. 5111 Georgia Avenue, NW

“Dear PoPville,

I heard Straw, Stick, and Brick Delicatessen on Georgia Ave is re-opening. It’d be so great if that was true. SSB had great food and was a kinda fun place to meet Petworth and Brightwood Park neighbors.

I was wondering if you might know whether the re-opening rumors are true?”

What I’ve learned is that the business was sold, name and all, back in September. Now I don’t know if the new owners have decided to keep the name or not but since they bought it and already have the nice awning – I’m guessing they’ll keep the name. As to what the new Straw Stick & Brick will be – obviously there will be a major food component but I think there will also be a major coffee component. So to sum up – new owners will be opening something here soon that may or may not be named Straw Stick & Brick. And there may be coffee. STAY TUNED.
