“On Wednesday, December 2, 2020, at approximately 1:08 pm, MPD received a call for Sounds of gunshots in the area of 4th and Delafield Place NW. MPD responded and located shell casings in the 300 block of Delafield Pl NW. Anyone with information or video is asked to contact MPD at 202-727-9099 or text 50411.”

“Today at approximately 12:45 PM, two suspects approached a person walking in the 1600 block of C St SE. One suspect brandished a gun and the other demanded property. The suspects took some of the victim’s personal property before fleeing east on C St. The victim was uninjured. The suspects were described as (1) a black male, late teens-early 20s, thin build, 5’11”, wearing a black hoody and (2) a black male, 6′-6’2″, wearing a dark hoody and black pants with white stripes. Anyone who may have seen this or has relevant information is asked to please call in a tip to 202-727-9099 or anonymously text 50-411.”

“On Tuesday, December 1, 2020, at approximately 8:10 pm the Metropolitan Police Department ShotSpotter recorded sounds of gunshots in the 3700 block of 9th St NW. Units responded and located shell casings in the area. A dark color SUV was observed leaving the area. Anyone with information or video is asked to contact MPD at 202-727-9099 or text 50411.”

“On November 26th 2020 at approximately 2:15pm the Fourth District responded to the 600 block of Decatur Street NW to investigate sounds of Gunshots. While at the location officers located 15 shell casing in the block and there were no injuries or property damage reported. Any information please contact 202-727-9099″

We received the first report at 10:09pm last night (Wednesday):

“Seriously, what’s with the explosion sounds (similar to a generator blowing) that we’ve heard several times in Fort Totten? The power has gone out several times again.”

“Same! We are without power near Fort Totten metro – two or three huge booms tonight. Same thing earlier this morning, but luckily power just flickered then.”

“The loud bangs are continuing. In the past the loud bangs came first, then we lost power. Tonight I only heard the bangs after we lost power. Intermittent sirens somewhere nearby.”

“It’s a transformer or some power line on 12th between Allison and Buchanen, it’s been exploding every couple days. Pepco was working on it earlier today after it happened, but just happened again minutes ago” (more…)

“On Tuesday, November 10, 2020 at approximately 7:50pm, Fourth District officers responded to the sounds of gunshots in the 800 block of Farragut Street, NW. Upon their arrival, they discovered a victim suffering from a single gunshot wound. The victim was transported to a local hospital where the victim was treated for their injuries.

A reader reports: “There was a drive-by shooting tonight at 9th Street NW and Farragut. A neighbor standing nearby was shot. Thank goodness she will be ok. She’s my neighbor. Was just outside with her husband chatting with another neighbor when a car drive by and fired on the block. They all hit the deck. (We live nearby and heard the shots). “

MPD reported at 3:23am: “SHOOTING/3300 block OF WATER ST NW/NO LOOKOUT/5269″

Update from MPD: “Detectives from the Metropolitan Police Department’s Homicide Branch are investigating a homicide that occurred on Saturday, November 7, 2020, in the 3300 block of Water Street, Northwest.

At approximately 2:56 am, members of the Second District responded to the listed location for the sounds of gunshots. Upon arrival, members located an adult male suffering from a gunshot wound. DC Fire and Emergency Medical Services responded to the scene and determined that the victim displayed no signs consistent with life. The victim remained on the scene until transported to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner.

The decedent has been identified as 19-year-old Franklin Hernandez Arevalo, of Alexandria, VA. (more…)



3830 Georgia Ave, NW

“Dear PoPville,

I’ve been up twice this week between the hours of 3am and 4:30am because of a delivery truck for Safeway on Georgia Ave in Petworth (loud banging, automatic lift noise, beeping of the lift, the engine rumble the entire time of the large truck). I have to be up for work at 5:15am and I live in an apartment above the Safeway. Shouldn’t these delivery trucks be going to a loading dock? (more…)
