“Since we opened our brewery and taproom in July, we’ve released over 12 beers and grown our distribution in and around the DC area to more than 30 bars and restaurants. This Tuesday (1/20), we are having a Tap Takeover at Petworth Citizen. It’s a great chance to check out our beer in your neighborhood and our brewer will be on hand to answer any questions.”

From MPD:

“On January 17, 2015, at approximately 1:30 A.M., a large fight erupted inside of 5123 Georgia Avenue, N.W. (Trinidad and Tobago Association/ Clubhouse DC). Over 200 patrons from the establishment exited the location, and a large fight then started on the sidewalk and quickly spread out onto Georgia Avenue, N.W. When police units from the Fourth District arrived on the scene moments later, the individuals involved in the fight dispersed and fled the scene. Due to the large number of disorderly subjects who remained in the street, Georgia Avenue was briefly closed in both directions between Ingraham Street and Jefferson Street, N.W.

After MPD units were able to move the crowd out of the street and ensure it was safe to do so, Georgia Avenue was re-opened. An investigation revealed that one patron was seriously injured inside of the club when he was struck in the face with a bottle. The patron was transported to a local area hospital for treatment of his injuries.

The investigation of this criminal offense is on-going. Suspect information is not available at this time. Anyone with information about this case is asked to call the Metropolitan Police Department at (202) 727-9099. Additionally, anonymous information may be submitted to the department’s TEXT TIP LINE by text messaging 50411.”

also:

“The Club House aka Trinidad and Tobago Association at 5123 Georgia Avenue NW has been temporarily closed by Chief Lanier based on an assault and allegations of underaged patrons consuming alcohol on the premises. An ABRA hearing has been requested.”

201 Upshur Street, NW

The Gods are smiling on us. The good news continues to come to Upshur Street and this time on the eastern end near the Old Soldiers Home across the street from the Hitching Post. 201 Upshur Street, NW is the former home to El Limeno and briefly La Joya Steakhouse. Now – J ‘n G Tavern is coming!!! Why three exclamation points? The J and G stand for Jackie and Gordon – the owners of Bar Charley (Dupont), El Chucho (Columbia Heights), Jackie’s and Quarry House (Silver Spring) and the future Little Coco’s (Columbia Heights/14th St Heights/Petworth).

And it’s going to be a real deal casual neighborhood corner tavern!! And there will be a heavy food focus on good burgers!! And it’ll be kid friendly in the early hours (with a small kids menu)!! And it will be casual – read – reasonably priced and accessible to everyone in the neighborhood!! And there will be 16 draft beer lines!! Ok ok you know I get excited easily but I’ll calm down a bit. In addition to 16 draft lines there will be 50-60 more beers available in bottles and cans. There will be over 100 bourbons and rye whiskeys. And because the space was previously a restaurant – they’ll be ready to open in April!!

Ed. Note: For those curious about the status of the coming Italian/pizza tavern, Little Coco’s, in the former Rib Pit Lounge space – it should be ready around late Summer.

“Dear PoPville,

I was shopping at the Safeway and there were a bunch of people gathered around getting ready to shoot a TV show. They wouldn’t tell me which show it was of course… Does anyone in the know have an idea what it might be? I’d love to know!”

Ed. Note: Another reader says:

“Petworth safeway is closed for an event from 10-2 today, with floor to ceiling black drapes at the entrances.”

Ed. Note: I’m sure Anita means well but I’ve never heard of anything like this before. Though, when I first moved to Petworth I was occasionally asked (in person) to join in some Church services (I’m Jewish) so I politely declined and I don’t feel like anyone was offended. It actually felt quite neighborly and not aggressive at all and when I declined my wishes were respected. But this is a whole different level.

“Dear PoPville,

I have been getting these funny (at first) but now creepy notes from an evangelical.

Our house seems to be the only one getting targeted since neighbors haven’t seen anything like this. Are other people in Petworth are being targeted?

At the very least, the three notes are pretty entertaining to read but they’re starting to freak out my wife. Especially since she’s addressing us by name and we’ve never met.

We are not Buddhists and i’m not sure where she got that idea. My wife and I, however, are from India hence ‘boota’ and the Cosby reference to ‘minorateas'”

“Dear PoPville,

The Pitch: Awesome Addition to Petworth

This restaurant/bar is a great addition to the neighborhood. I had the shrimp and jerk chicken tacos tonight, which were really good. The beer was fresh and tasty, and the owners and manager were friendly and welcoming. Great atmosphere and this place definitely deserves a shout out.”

Ed. Note: I gave them some love last week. Here’s a look inside:
