quincy liquor
3712 14th Street, NW

“Dear PoPville,

The owner of quincy liquor is the nicest man and last weekend when we went in he explained he’s going to start selling coffee.

Long story short the plan is for him to start selling Ethiopian coffee, as well as aged barrel coffee from Colorado. he seems really passionate about this venture- also mentioned they’d be doing some outdoor seating as well.

Would love to hear from readers if they would sit outside or even buy inside to go coffee at a liquor store, and in general what they’d like to see from local coffee in the area. he’s the nicest man and would love to support him and the improvement of this block!”

Ed. Note: Plans remind me a bit of Cafe Kaza in Logan, though they were more of a bodega originally. So would you buy coffee at a liquor store? If the coffee, and prices are good, I say why not?!?!??

“Short eats are an everyday staple in Sri Lanka. I’m excited to introduce DC communities to our culture’s food. My family has been cooking rotis, curries and diverse Sri Lankan dishes using our home-grown spices from the island for years,” stated Yohan Ferdinando, Co-Founder of Short Eats and former Operations Manager of food delivery startups Postmates and Favor.

Union Kitchen member Short Eats further plans to launch a full catering menu at the Petworth Community Farmers Market starting May 13 through November. Roti pockets and curries will be sold every Saturday 9:00AM-1:00PM at the corner of Georgia Avenue and Upshur Street.

On Saturday May 6, Short Eats will also be at the Funk Parade offering Sri Lankan native-spice curries bowls and its signature pol sambol near Howard Theater throughout the day starting at 12p/noon.”

Got a lot of emails about Slim’s Diner being closed by the Department of Health. One reader reports:

“Do you have any info on what happened to Slim’s? They’ve been closed at least since Friday due to some sort of health inspection violation. Their twitter just says something about needing to fix their grease trap…”

Well this is an awful thing that happened at beloved Fish in the Hood while I was gone last week. Thanks to all who emailed and tweeted.

I stopped by yesterday and repairs had already begun so stay tuned for a reopening date hopefully soon!
