From a press release:

“Hot Hot Hot: Fundraiser for Climate Action

A group of concerned, sustainability-minded individuals are co-hosting a benefit with the Midlands Beer Garden in Park View to combat climate change on Friday, April 28th, from 6-10pm. This event is part of the People’s Climate March “Week of Action”.

Kegs have been generously donated by Anderson Valley Brewing and Uinta Brewing. Any beers from these taps and all other proceeds will benefit Earthjustice, a nonprofit environmental law organization, fighting for action on climate change, environmental justice, and the health of our communities across the country.

In addition to drinking beers for a great cause, attendees will have the opportunity to take action and make their voices heard. The event will include stations for making rally signs for the People’s Climate March on April 29th and writing letters to lawmakers and local representatives. (more…)

Thanks to a reader for the heads up in this morning’s rant/revel – from The Midlands:

“Since we opened in November we have met many wonderful people in the community and we love that The Midlands has become a gathering place for the neighborhood. Watching the garden filled with adults, dogs and children is a wonderful sight. Sadly, we need to change our rules regarding children. We know this because some our best friends and employees are parents. We know all you want is a relaxing place to bring your kiddo and enjoy a drink with your friends, but unfortunately there are safety concerns that have been brought to our attention. (more…)

“Dear PoPville,

Two families with children enrolled in a local elementary school, Bruce Monroe Elementary at Park View (BMPV), are currently facing deportation proceedings and are approaching the community for help.

A fund has been established to support the families so they can retain an attorney.

We’re urging neighbors to please consider donating! Any money not spent providing legal assistance to BMPV families will be donated to the CAIR coalition and CARECEN in equal parts.”
