“Dear PoPville,

I was sitting on my porch on Warder St NW the other morning and heard a very loud crash a few doors down. I went to investigate and saw a light pole had fallen and smashed a car. A contractor was parallel parking a van and a ladder attached to the roof bumped the pole. No big deal – contractor’s fault. The scary part is the second two pictures. The pole is supposed to be held in place on the base with nuts and bolts. If you look at the very rusty bolts, you can tell that there obviously haven’t been nuts on them in a very long time – maybe years. That means that the bolts were just sitting in the holes and the entire pole was just balancing on the base. It kind you wonder how many of these giant light poles are barely attached and a danger. There’s no way a ladder bumping into the pole should have brought it down.”

3400 Georgia Ave, NW

“Dear PoPville,

Have you heard anything about the 3400 block of Georgia Ave? The mushroom farm seems to have never taken off (in fact I don’t think they even moved into the space).

Even that Spanish grocery seams to have stalled. According to PIVS their latest permit was cancelled. What’s going on?”

A staffer with CM Nadeau’s office sends OP:

“I wanted to let you know that the Department of Consumer and Regulatory Affairs (DCRA) has confirmed that both the properties you mentioned, 3400 Georgia Ave NW and 3412 Georgia Ave NW, are currently classified as vacant.”

Thanks to a reader for the heads up in this morning’s rant/revel – from The Midlands:

“Since we opened in November we have met many wonderful people in the community and we love that The Midlands has become a gathering place for the neighborhood. Watching the garden filled with adults, dogs and children is a wonderful sight. Sadly, we need to change our rules regarding children. We didn’t come to this decision lightly because we understand how difficult it can be for parents to find a place where their whole family is welcome. We know this because some our best friends and employees are parents. We know all you want is a relaxing place to bring your kiddo and enjoy a drink with your friends, but unfortunately there are safety concerns that have been brought to our attention. (more…)
