Vincent reports:

“I have a follow up for Bun DC. It is in fact the same ownership from Pho Viet. I bumped into the owner of Pho Viet inspecting the restaurant from outside and she told me that it is actually her mother’s restaurant, but she will also be a cook. Regardless, the Pho Viet family will have their handprints all over this. She said they are ready to go and could easily open in a week, but have been waiting on DC to inspect the place for months. As a huge Pho Viet fan, DC needs to hurry up and get on this!”

Amen. STAY TUNED.

Thanks to Cait for passing on from the New Communities Initiative:

“BELL Architects has been selected to lead the design of the acre park that will front Georgia Avenue and Columbia Road NW. The chosen team also includes the Landscape Architecture Bureau and Wiles Mensch Corporation. A key factor in BELL’s selection was their experience and qualifications leading comprehensive community design. Accordingly, BELL believes that community engagement is the key to a successful project and community satisfaction. Their project team has experience leading interactive community meetings to gain feedback to incorporate into the design. The first community-wide meeting is being planned for March 2018 and will be announced broadly.”

From MPD:

“Last night at approximately 9:30 pm, the 7th District had an armed carjacking at 1433 Shippen Lane SE. Taken was a 2016 red Mercedes Benz.

There was GPS enabled on the vehicle and MPD was notified that the vehicle was in the 700 b/o Quebec place NW.

4D officers responded and located the vehicle in the rear of the 700 b/o Quebec Place N.W.

The vehicle was unoccupied when officers arrived. A perimeter was set up for K9 track. K9 was unsuccessful.

The 700 b/o Quebec has since been reopened.

Anyone with information should call 202.727.9099″

From an email:

“On the ground floor there’s space for a retail tenant (3,358 sq ft). Above will be 15 apartment units (13 singles, two efficiency). We’d love to bring an excellent food and beverage tenant to Ward 1!”

Today:

“Dear PoPville,

The District has installed seven traffic lights that emit a loud beeping signal at the intersection of Irving St NW and Hobart Pl NW, at the edge of Wangari Gardens and a few feet from the gate to the Washington Hospital Center. It’s a quiet corner of a quiet neighborhood, and many days and nights I can hear the beeping from my house half a mile away. I imagine dozens of households closer to the intersection are even more disturbed by this racket.

I am sympathetic and concerned for the safety of my visually impaired neighbors, but I wonder if there’s any way I can get DPW to mitigate this 24-hour cacophony. [Ed. Note: I believe this is DDOT and not DPW] Few pedestrians use that intersection, and I wonder whether one visually impaired person crosses it in a week (I have no idea). Did DPW or another responsible agency study the matter before the installation? Can they turn down the volume so it’s audible only to a few feet away?

Has anyone had any experience with this issue?”

“Dear PoPville,

On Tuesday morning, January 9, I found a wallet outside the entrance to the Soldiers’ Home National Cemetery in Petworth. It contained some sensitive documents but no money. It appears to potentially belong to an individual with the initials J.A.R.C., or maybe R.A.R.C. I turned it in to MPD’s 4th District Substation on Park Road NW. Hopefully the owner will be able to claim their wallet.”
