In May a water main broke due to construction hitting it near Columbia Road & 11th Street NW (Columbia Heights Old Faithful). Since then, the intersection has been torn up and reconstructed 5-6 times. The other day they hit a waterline again. (more…)

Dc swept up the leaves in piles but didn’t come get them! Happened this morning in Fort Davis, SE. I think a hot car may have been the cause. [Ed. Note: DC Fire and EMS has warned about hot cars and Councilmember Allen warned of arson in Hill East.] I saw it smoking then it quickly burst into fire. (more…)

“Safe streets advocates are gathering to celebrate the life of Allison “Allie” Hart, the 5-year-old girl who was tragically struck and killed while riding her bike in a crosswalk on September 13. A “chalk-in” will take place this Sunday, December 12 from 10 a.m.-1 p.m. at the intersection of 14th St. NE and Irving Street, NE. Participants will fill the intersection with color, joy, and crystal clear messages about the dire need for safer streets for ALL here in DC. Good news from ANC Rep Brian Romanowski:
“The track and field will be open on Saturdays and Sundays from 9 am to 5 pm until further notice, unless Banneker or another group has permitted use for the space. The open entrances can be found on Rhode Island Ave. and 11th Street for now (not R Street).”

Saw your post about the huge piles of leaves and car fires. Troubling development.
Councilmember Allen posted the following warning on his Facebook feed:
Hill East neighbors (and folks elsewhere), I wanted to alert you and update on what we suspect to be multiple incidents of arson (I’ve seen video from neighbor’s cameras). Over the past few weeks, someone has been lighting piles of leaves on fire, most recently in the area around 15th and D St., SE last night. The fire has spread to cars parked along the street and done serious damage. (more…)
