“I’m the partner / operator at the newly opened Capa Tosta located at 2737 Sherman Ave NW. My family and I immigrated to the DC area from Napoli, Italy 30 years ago. We’ve been working at restaurants in the area ever since. We’re so excited to finally strike out on our own. My parents, both lifetime chefs and bakers, have come out of retirement to bring family recipes to this neighborhood restaurant. We’ve coupled authentic dishes with innovative cocktails.”

About that scuttlebutt, hahaha oops thanks to Jason for sending the news from the Post 10 days ago :)

“Songbyrd will take over Coconut Club’s former location on Penn Street NE and will continue to host the eclectic lineup of up-and-coming acts that drew longtime patrons to Adams Morgan for the past six years. The exact date of its grand opening in Northeast is still to be determined, but in the meantime, Edmonson and Lapan will reopen Songbyrd’s original location on Aug. 16.”

“We’re going to do this ourselves in our restaurants in New York City and in Washington DC,” restauranteur @dhmeyer announces all staff and customers will be required to show vaccination proof.”

DC Danny Meyer/Union Square Hospitality Group restaurants include Anchovy Social, and Maialino Mare in Navy Yard.

“Get your takeout while you still can! I’m devastated to see them go.”

Thanks to PVQ for sending: “FYI: Salt and Pepper II (the location on 14th and Shepherd) has a “for sale” sign in their window. I talked to the owner and confirmed this location will be closing soon. Get your takeout while you still can! I’m devastated to see them go.”

They opened here back in December 2013. The original Salt and Pepper Grill is located at 2632 Georgia Ave, NW in Pleasant Plains. You can see their menu here.

“Hatoba, the Sapporo-style ramen shop in Navy Yard, is expanding its menu to include Hawaiian-inspired favorites, classics and updates.

The Daikaya Group, long known for its exacting dedication to Japanese cuisine and sensibility, takes a cue from chef Katsuya Fukushima’s family connections to Hawaii to bring new dishes and island energy to the restaurant which already means “dock” in Japanese.

The curated slate of tonkotsu ramens will remain, and will make room for a range of unexpected and modern takes on the 50th state’s food scene. “Dear PoPville,

There is a young male who walks around the neighborhood on a regular basis, usually asking for money every now and then and sometimes carries a black backpack. I only used to see him walk around at night, where he has approached me a few times before – once even walking alongside me as I was walking home alone. I have noticed him around a lot more now after an interaction I had with him last week. (more…)
