“Restaurateur Chris Brown (Zinnia, Soko & Takoma Bev Co) and Executive Chef Danny Wells (Republic, Zinnia and Takoma Bev Co.) team up to launch a new restaurant with a bold name, Motorkat. Motorkat will be located in the heart of Takoma Park in the space formerly home to Republic restaurant. The Motorkat concept is inspired by Takoma Park’s activist roots and the menu will revolve around a high quality sourced raw bar and a seasonally-led wood-fired culinary experience. People’s Book coming to Takoma Park early this Summer!

“People’s Book, a woman-owned general purpose bookstore is excited to announce its launch in the heart of Takoma Park in early summer 2023 at 7014-A Westmoreland Ave. The store will have a diverse selection of over 12,000 books, with a special focus on childrens’ literature, local interests, new releases and independent magazines. Update: Homicide. 3pm Shooting yesterday afternoon in Takoma

“Detectives from the Metropolitan Police Department’s Homicide Branch are investigating a homicide that occurred on Monday, January 30, 2023, in the 500 block of Somerset Place, Northwest.

At approximately 2:56 pm, members of the Fourth District responded to the listed location for the report of a shooting. Upon arrival, the members located an adult male victim suffering from an apparent gunshot wound. DC Fire and Emergency Medical Services responded to the scene and transported the victim to an area hospital. After all life-saving efforts failed, the victim was pronounced dead. 

The decedent has been identified as 36-year-old Michael Gaddis of Northwest, DC. (more…)

I guess there might still plans to build the “vintage” 9:30 Club on this spot? I had the impression they would simply renovate the space, not rebuild it from the ground up.”
