More action for Navy Yard/Ballpark.

From a press release:

“Skanska USA Commercial Development announced today that CIRCA, a bistro owned by Metropolitan Hospitality Group, will be the first retail tenant at 99M. CIRCA will take 5,000 square feet at the 11-story, 234,000-square-foot Class A office building in Washington’s Capitol Riverfront submarket.

“We selected 99M for our next CIRCA because it is at the heart of the vibrant, mixed-use Capitol Riverfront neighborhood,” said Matt Carlin, President, Metropolitan Hospitality Group.”

Located at the corner of 1st and M Streets SE, 99M will include approximately 220,000 square feet of office space, with approximately 11,000 square feet of retail/restaurant space on the ground floor. 99M is designed to LEED® Gold standards.

“Circa embodies what we look for in a retail tenant – it activates the street, provides a high quality amenity for our future office tenants and fosters a strong sense of community within the neighborhood,” said Rob Ward, Executive Vice President for Skanska USA Commercial Development.

CIRCA at 99M will include outdoor seating and offer fresh, creative American fare, a vibrant community bar scene with Happy Hour and a wide selection of beers, seasonal, handcrafted cocktails and a carefully curated wine list.

99M is located steps from both Navy Yard-Ballpark Metrorail entrances and is less than five blocks from Capitol Hill. It will be the northernmost anchor of the redevelopment of Square 701, which, in addition to the new office building, includes a new 170-key Residence Inn by Marriott, a 325-unit apartment building, a new 168-key Hampton Inn & Suites and another 29,000 square feet of retail space along 1st Street SE.”

You can see their Foggy Bottom location’s menus here.

“CIRCA at Foggy Bottom has been conceived as a local bistro serving great food, great drinks and offer the clientele a great time. CIRCA at Foggy Bottom is warm, inviting, current, and offers an energized social scene.

Whether dining for brunch or dinner, every meal will be complimented by the extensive wine list, including over 20 wine offerings by the glass, and an original cocktail list for every season. The bar scene will be kicked off with Happy Hour Monday through Thursday, boasting a hightop table that is a community fixture, and will extend until closing every night with a comfortable lounge vibe.”

300 M Street, SE

A reader reports:

“The Sizzling Express at 300 M Street SE has closed. There is yellow tape up over the door and signs stating “closed” and “thanks for you patronage.”

It makes me sad. I went there and had a sandwich after my first job interview in DC. It always struggled with cleanliness being shut down several times by the DC Health Inspector. It’s just the Harris Teeter was the last straw for business.”

A brief update on Bardo Riverfront – they’ve applied for a liquor license:

“New outdoor tavern with Summer Garden seating 750 patrons and brewpub. Total occupancy load of 750.”

For those not familiar with the plans:

“Initial plans call for riverfront seating, a sculpture garden, outdoor films over the water, DC’s largest dog park, an on site bicycle shop designed to interface with the location on the metropolitan branch trail, and a large outdoor space designated for activation by the local community in the form of farmers markets, swap meets and assorted community events.”

From Bluejacket [300 Tingey Street, SE]:

“To cap off a week of phenomenal DC Beer Week events, we are going to cut the ribbon on Bluejacket’s new Bottle Shop & Tasting Room, located adjacent to the brewery and restaurant, on Saturday, August 15th,beginning at 11am and running until 4pm. We will have no fewer than 20 different Bluejacket brews available by the bottle for this event, and you can check out the list below for what we have in store. We’ll also have 6 brews on draft in the Bottle Shop & Tasting Room, including Forbidden Planet, Jackal, Lost Weekend, Red Wine Barrel-Aged Swirl, The Jam and Whiskey Barrel-Aged Double Mexican Radio.

Additionally, we’ll be selling tickets to the event (deemed the “Best Beer Festival in DC”) at Bluejacket throughout the day, plus giving away 2 VIP tickets (which are nearly sold out)!

Philz

More good news for San Fran expats and apparently those who like really good coffee. Another Philz is on the way. Last week we followed up on the one coming to Adams Morgan slated to open early next year. And now one is coming to Navy Yard too. And for running fans another Pacers is opening up as well – Pacers new Logan location opened up just last month in the former Muleh space on 14th Street.

Lots more inf from a press release:

“Two more great new retailers have been announced for The Yards, DC’s premier waterfront neighborhood. Pacers Running, a popular, locally-based runners resource store will open in October in the Boilermaker Shops, while Philz Coffee, a growing San Francisco-based coffee shop, will open in the new Arris residential building in Spring 2016. The announcement of the latest retailers to join The Yards was made by Forest City Washington, the project’s master developer. (more…)
