8 years in Navy Yard is like 48 in Dupont. Thanks to all who messaged about this sadness. I got some scuttlebutt back in late March that this may happen but I totally blanked on it. They were a pioneer that’s for sure. Hard to remember these days, but this was THE spot to hang (besides Barracks Row) before games back in the day. And so it goes. From Justin’s Facebook:

“It’s been a great eight years. Thank you all for the fun times and memories. We couldn’t have asked for a better run. Ahhh enough tears, cheers to eight years. In the meantime, this staff is some of the best people I’ve met in my life. If y’all have any opportunities open up, these people are pure gold.”

Updates when we learn more about what will become of the space and if there are any planned changes to The Big Stick too.

“Dear PoPville,

I noticed that you distinguish between Capitol Hill, Hill East, H St NE, and Navy Yard. I was wondering, do you have a precise set of boundaries to divide these places from each other? For example, where exactly does Capitol Hill become Hill East? And where the dividing line between Capitol Hill and H St NE?”

I shall defer to the experts who live there!!

And free PoPville swag to anyone who draws up a map (or maps) after we get some sorta consensus. hahaha I know there will be no consensus but we’ll do the best we can. please email them to me at [email protected]

Thanks to Michelle for sending the update. I mean if you’re gonna go for it, you might as well go all the way – I’m talking SoCap. SoCap. Sup SoCap? No, God Dang it, I can’t do it. Not even in jest.

Now having said all that, mark T-13 days to Thursday, October 18 – 9 am opening.

To NAVY YARD opening.

800 New Jersey Avenue, SE

hahaha thanks to Christopher for sending:

“Whole Foods is out here trying to invent new neighborhoods. “South Capitol Hill” is not a thing. If you’re south of I-695, you’re in Navy Yard. Them’s the rules.”

If I may – 1. I agree.
2. Whole Foods could call this area South East Shaw and people would still be excited about this opening.
3. I’d be curious to hear the perspective of the “Capitol Riverfront” on this one…

OK, from Whole Foods: (more…)

202 M Street, SE

From sweet, sweet scuttlebutt in December 2017 to a sweet, sweet soft opening tomorrow!!
It’s no secret that I love Wiseguy Pizza – arguably the best slice of pizza in the District of Columbia. So, they could open in a cardboard box and I’d be excited about it. Well, I’m hyperventilating as I type this because the transformed Il Parco space is freaking beautiful. You can see for yourself in a sec but first let me quickly add the important stuff – soft opening tomorrow at noon [Tuesday] until the pizza runs out [stay tuned for regular hours], Counter Culture coffee and pastries will be kick off in it’s beautiful space starting in about a month. There will be beer. And when the weather warms up again there will be house made gelato. Congrats to Navy Yard, you are very, very lucky peeps.

Feast on the new space:
