“Dear PoPville,

Can a church legally earn revenue by having cell phone towers on its roof? I thought churches were exempt from taxes so that’s why they rely on donations. This is Lincoln Park Methodist.”

Update from MPD:

“I understand the reader reported the multi-vehicle crash was related to a police pursuit, however that is not the case.

One vehicle struck several other vehicles and then struck a parked vehicle.

At this time, two people have been transported to area hospitals.

The incident is being investigated, preliminary information suggests that the driver may have experienced a medical emergency.”

A reader reports:

“Just a heads up – I live on 14th and East Capitol SE. Around 1030 this morning, there was a loud “woooosh” sound that I thought was strange, but just the wind. Turns out, while a funeral was going on and many older parishioners were exiting the church, there was a stolen car leading police on a high speed chase. The driver of the vehicle lost control of the car at 14th and East Capitol, crashing into 4 other cars. The driver was taken to the hospital, and it appears that no one was seriously injured.”

Alert DC tweeted:

“MPD reports that the 1300 Blk. of East Capitol St SE is also closed in reference to the accident at 14th and E. Capitol SE.”

just a stock photo of a liquor store sign I like because of the contrast with the church

the liquor store- the blight of a NE DC neighborhood

“I live in a row house in an otherwise seemingly quiet part of NE DC near Stadium Armory. The place is great except for the corner of 18th and D St NE where two businesses (the Parks Economy Market and Master Liquor) attract a crowd socializing in and around the outside area for hours into the evening.

Shattered glass, beer cans, food waste and food wrappers litter the sidewalks around the areas surround C St NE and D St NE from 17th St NE to 21st St NE. Cars pull up blasting music almost always with a heavy bass line. Other times men are shouting at each other incoherently about sports or news or whatever else is on their minds. Often this is accompanied by a haze of marijuana. Other times you might find someone slouched over the sidewalk completely drunk and on the ground. On the weekends things turn even more colorful.

Why does this matter? (more…)

“The National Cannabis Festival is a one-of-a-kind event,” said Vanessa West, General Manager, Metropolitan Wellness Center and festival committee co-chair, “this is the only event of this size and scale for cannabis enthusiasts on the east coast. With beer and wine festivals every weekend, it’s about time the cannabis community had a national level festival.” (more…)
