June 1st sighting

“Dear PoPville,

Pretty sure I ran into the NOMA flasher this morning at 2nd and M NE at about 7:25am.

Was heading to the Metro with my son in his stroller, when a husky black man (maybe in his 30’s, ~5′-10, mustache, wearing brown khakis, pink zip up hoodie, and a black drawstring backpack) suddenly pulled a stocking cap down over his face. I thought he was just adjusting the cap until I realized it was more of a balaclava with a big cut out for his eyes. (more…)

Nothing a little plywood and grit can’t fix. Gonna need a bigger vehicle to keep Dave down. Thanks to Andy for sending the update that they’ve already opened after a driver crashed a car into it June 6th.

“Don’t know when they reopened, but they were definitely serving Saturday evening. Dine-in and drive-thru, both. No word yet on drive-in service.”

We last spoke about Fixing Dave Thomas Circle here but it sounds like there were other issues at play here too:

A reader sends a couple photos of the aftermath:

A reader reports yesterday:

“Wanted to write and let you know about the serial penis flasher in NoMa. Ski mask clad, and d**k whipped out at 7:30 am by the NoMa metro ready to greet innocent bystanders. He has been spotted by numerous people, cops have been called, and he’s still up to no good. Photo is of him zipping up…so that’s his hand in the crotch region.”

From the NoMa BID:

“NoMa’s largest park, located along the Metropolitan Branch Trail (MBT) and Harry Thomas Way NE, is gearing up for construction later this year. Consistent with the wildly successful naming of Swampoodle Park (at 3rd and L streets NE), the NoMa Parks Foundation is relying on the input of community members to identify names to suggest to the DC Council and Mayor Muriel Bowser. The proposed names for the “NoMa Green” are: Gales Wood, Met Branch Commons, Tanner Park, and Union Green. Take the survey to vote.

Previously, the NoMa Parks Foundation received 112 submissions from community members, collected at a community meeting and through online outreach. (more…)

“The Grand Opening of Blue Bottle’s Union Station cafe is Sunday, May 27. On Saturday, May 26, the cafe will host a Community Day, where the public is invited to enjoy a coffee, on the house. Food and merchandise will also be available for purchase, and all sales will go to the cafe’s community partner, charity: water, a nonprofit organization bringing clean and safe drinking water to people in developing countries.
