“Dear PoPville,

I thought’d you appreciate this sign posted in the elevators of my office building near Union Station. It sounds serious, but I couldn’t help but laugh!”

It’s either laugh or cry, laugh or cry.

“Dear PoPville,

I was grocery shopping at Trader Joe’s at Union Market. We parked on the lower basement level. There is a rancid smell not unlike 1000 soiled baby diapers in the Arizona dessert sun. I vomited in the garbage can. The patrons next to me pulled their t-shirts over their mouths like kids playing masked robber. It harkens the scene from Silence of the Lambs when Clarice just couldn’t take it anymore. (more…)

“Dear PoPville,

For the second time in a week we have widespread power outage issues in the triangle east of 2nd St NE, South of Florida Ave and north of the H Street. On the Pepco outage map it looks like approximately 1,300 customers are without power. Last week’s outage(s) map looked like a “Whac-A-Mole” game, one outage would get fixed and multiple smaller ones would pop up. (more…)

“Dear PoPville,

I work near Union Station and use to live around the area two years ago, and have noticed the amount of homeless people and drug users around Union Station appears to have dramatically increased. Whenever I walk over to the station, there are groups of people completely passed out or tweaking from drugs. Recently, one person, who was clearly high, was just wandering around in the middle of the street with his eyes closed. Later I saw, the police had to intervene.

Anyway, it makes me feel very unsafe and uneasy about walking over to Union Station. Does anyone know why there has been—what appears to be–an increase in homeless people in the area?”

Ed. Note: In May of 2016 we spoke about “Harassment Outside Union Station” and later that month Korrin L. Bishop, on behalf of Capitol Hill Group Ministry wrote a thoughtful response.
