Thanks to Alexandra for sending: “Elle (3221 Mt Pleasant Street, NW) is doing a taco pop-up this Tuesday for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. I had The tacos last week when they did a pop-up at Bammy’s in Navy Yard and they were BOMB!!! Here is the link to the Elle pop as they are only doing pre-orders here.

La Tejana is run by a Colombian woman and her partner who live in Mount Pleasant, so it’s a local business that people would be supporting.”

“Dear PoPville,

I wanted to share a quick story of gratitude tonight. I had dinner at a friends house in Mt. Pleasant tonight, and when I got in my car to leave, I realized I had a very flat tire. My friend and I were deciding whether I should just leave it or if I could make it home safely to Petworth and deal with it tomorrow. I opted for the latter, but drove only a half a block when it became obvious that I could not drive with this tire. I pulled over on Monroe, on the East side of 16th, and a man named Ralph stopped to ask if I needed help. He pulled over and he began to help put on my spare, but it was rough getting the tire off. Two other guys, Pedro and Juan, came upon the scene, (more…)

“Dear PoPville, Friends, neighbors and fellow Mt. P parents, I love how this community always comes together for those in need and now I’m appealing to your big hearts to help one such family…

Our dear friend Rafael Garcia passed away on July 3 after a 2-month hospitalization due to Covid-19 at the young age of 49, just 4 months before his 50th birthday. He was the primary breadwinner for his family, leaving behind his beloved wife Beatriz and 2 young sons, Jonathan, age 2.5 and Alfredo, age 13.

As an immigrant from El Salvador who called the US home for the past 20+ years, he worked around the clock to provide for his family, aiming to give his sons the American Dream through hard work, honesty and integrity. You may have seen his smiling face around the hood for years as he did expert work on many Mt. P houses, including the full gut job/restoration of our own Kilbourne rowhome over the better part of a year.

To help Rafael’s widow, we’d like to collect gently used boys Size 3T and 4T clothes, shoes, books and toys (for age 3-4). If you are ready to part with any of these things, please let me know and I can arrange contactless pickup from the porch. [Ed. Note: You can email me at [email protected] and I’ll put you in touch with OP]

Also, if you are able to spare a couple of bucks, we’ve set up a GoFundMe for the family to help as they navigate this new world without their husband/father/provider. Any amount is appreciated–no matter how small.

I sincerely thank you in advance for paying it forward.”
