“Dear PoPville,

The DC Office of Planning is undertaking a public life study in Columbia Heights and Mount Pleasant. It is “a comprehensive effort to improve the quality and use of public spaces in Columbia Heights and Mount Pleasant through data-driven analysis, guideline development, and inclusive community engagement.” It includes four components: Inclusive Engagement, a Public Life Assessment, Design Guidelines, and a Sidewalk Vending Study. Back in October 2023 we broke the news that the 7 Eleven was closing in Mount Pleasant. A couple of months ago I shared some scuttlebutt with our Patreon supporters about who I thought was taking over the space. “Rosemount Center and House of Mercy have finalized and signed a formal lease agreement for Rosemount Center to stay in its current location until August 31, 2026 with the option to buy the building before the extension ends.”

The full joint statement from Rosemount Center and House of Mercy:

“We are pleased to announce that Rosemount Center and House of Mercy have finalized a formal lease extension for the current Rosemount Center campus located at 2000 Rosemount Avenue, N.W. in Washington D.C. The lease term is extended to August 31, 2026. House of Mercy also has granted to Rosemount Center the option to purchase the property at an agreed upon price, which option may be exercised by Rosemount Center on or before March of 2026. Rosemount Center will actively engage in fundraising efforts to support this potential purchase. Both Rosemount Center and House of Mercy are grateful for the continuing support of the community and are delighted that Rosemount Center can continue its mission to provide essential early childhood education and family support services to local Washington D.C. residents.
