An update from MPD on last night’s shooting in Logan Circle:

The victim fled from his assailant, and was found suffering from a single gunshot wound in the 1800 block of 14th Street, N.W. The victim is being treated at a local area hospital. A third bullet struck the window of a business establishment in the 1700 block of 14th Street, N.W. Fortunately, there were no injuries resulting from these stray bullets. The suspect involved in this shooting was observed by witnesses fleeing southbound on 14 Street, N.W.

At this time, the investigation is continuing. Anyone with information regarding this crime is urged to call 202-727-9099. Thank you for your assistance!”

Ed. Note: I’m told the business that was hit with a stray bullet was Batch 13.

“Dear PoPville,

Traffic at a standstill at that intersection. Probably 8 police cars on scene and a fire truck and ambulance. Police tape also blocking off a side street two blocks down. What’s going on?”

Another reader writes:

“4-5 Gun shots fired at 14 and Riggs. Victim and friend ran to 14 and S in front of the garden district where cops and emt showed up. Victim shot below hip on right side.”

It’s been over a year since we checked in on Barcelona Wine Bar and Restaurant coming to the former BodySmith Gym space next to Miss Pixie’s.

They’ve made some serious progress in that time:

This courtyard looks like it will be amazing:

Their website says:

“Barcelona was begun in 1995 by Sasa Mahr-Batuz, based on his memories of years of living in Spain and Portugal, and Andy Pforzheimer, based on his 20 years as a chef at world-famous restaurants in France, California and New York.

Beginning with a tiny, 38-seat wine bar they set out to recreate the feel and the look of an evening on the Ramblas. They worked hard and made no compromises to achieve their aims: sophisticated décor that evoked Milan, SoHo, or Rio de Janeiro. Simple, flavor-filled dishes redolent with olive oil, lemon, smoky paprika. A comprehensive list of wines by the glass from around the world, with an emphasis on the lesser-known regions of Spain and Portugal. They were guided not by any places that existed at the time, but only by what they liked, and the way they liked it.”

You can see one of their Menus here.

Can’t wait to see how this turns out!

“Dear PoPville,

I noticed the construction project on the old bricklayer’s building on 14th between R and S has removed the trees in front of that parcel. Not that anything can be done about it now but it’s really too bad that two full size (and I believe healthy) trees on an important and busy strip were completely removed rather than being cut back to facilitate construction. Just wanted to pass word along, though maybe this is more appropriate for a rant or revel.”

You can see a bit of the former trees from when we talked about the old Kosmo.com logos revealed by the demo:

Thanks to a reader for sending word:

“There does not seem to be much fanfare but M Café Bar opened Wednesday night… They were serving what they called an opening menu that is shorter than what the final menu will be.”

Unfortunately, full menus aren’t posted yet. Anyone happen to stop by?

A couple of readers have written in about power outages in Logan Circle:

“My whole block has lost power (1700 of 13th Street) – the pepco map says parts of zip codes 20009, 20010, 20011 all are out – when you call Pepco they say it is due to underground equipment failure in Adams Morgan, and is anticipated to be fixed by 7pm August 22. (so not til tomorrow, though they do say crews are on site).”

Another reader writes:

“Power outage inLogan Circle. Auto recording says underground equipment failure. Restoration expected by 7:30 pm tomorrow. Been out since 11 am. Worried about my pets. Also recording says Adams Morgan not Logan Circle. Can’t reach a human being to clarify.”
