SLATE Wine Bar + Bistro – known for its extensive selection of unique wines and their ability to make every meal memorable – is launching its new menu Friday, September 20, 2013. The contemporary American dishes will promote seasonal fall flavors with expanded menu selections.

“I’m excited our new fall menu provides more variety for diners as we have increased the number of the items on our lunch, dinner, and brunch menus. I am especially pleased we have added more vegetarian and seafood items,” says SLATE Manager, Daniel Lledó.

Incorporating diverse flavors, highlights of SLATE’s fall menu include the Spicy Eggplant appetizer; Pan Seared Sea Scallops with bacon-corn chowder; Bistro Filet with mushroom-peppercorn sauce, fries, and asparagus; and local Rockfish with tomato, fennel and asparagus. Guests wanting to pair cheese with their wine may be excited by the new Cheese and Charcuterie selections like Canya de Cabra and acorn fed Lomo Embutido.”

Ed. Note: Mayfair and Pine closed back in late March. You can see Mad Fox’s beer menu here and food menus here.

From a press release:

“Following last month’s festive celebration of the third anniversary of its flagship brewpub in Falls Church, Mad Fox Brewing Company announced today that it will expand to Washington, DC, with plans to open a 4,590 square foot taproom at 2218 Wisconsin Avenue, NW in Glover Park. Mad Fox Brewing Company Taproom (Mad Fox Taproom), a 127-seat neighborhood establishment, is slated to open by the end of first quarter 2014, depending on the renovations needed and the permitting process.

“Glover Park is a wonderful neighborhood that deserves a great beer bar like the Mad Fox Taproom,” said Mad Fox CEO and Executive Brewer Bill Madden. Mad Fox has been searching for a location in the Nation’s Capital for the past 20 months, scouting out 27 neighborhoods throughout the District. “Glover Park offers an ideal fit for our concept and shares similarities with Falls Church in its demographics and overall environment. And just like in Falls Church, we look forward to becoming an active and positive member of the community, contributing to both the economy and the culinary options of the area.”

The Mad Fox Taproom will showcase its award-winning handcrafted beers with draught and English-style cask service, with up to 24 draught and cask options. Diners can expect a full menu with appetizers, sandwiches, burgers, salads and small plates. (more…)

On July 3rd we learned Sushi Ko had been closed in Glover Park. At that time we did not know if it was temporary or permanent. Signs posted on their door still indicate they hope to reopen:

I walked by on Saturday and the space was still closed. A phone call to their Chevy Chase location revealed they are still hoping to re-open the Glover Park spot. But a reader hears they will close permanently. Stay tuned.

“Dear PoPville,

I’m not sure if you’ve heard any scuttlebutt, but apparently Sushiko in Glover Park is closed. I called to order takeout last week, and the man who answered (presumably the manager) said they were closed due to some kind of emergency. I assumed there may have been a problem with a customer, but when I asked if everyone was OK, he indicated it was no big deal. Well, tonight I tried again, and no one picked up at all. So I called the Chevy Chase location, and the hostess said the Glover Park location had been closed for about a week and likely would be closed permanently. She said she didn’t know why.

If this is true and Sushiko is closed in Glover Park, that’s a huge loss for the neighborhood and for anyone looking for relatively affordable, high-quality sushi in a city with few options. (We regularly drive all the way over from Logan Circle for pick up.)

Has anyone in PoPville heard anything?”

I also spoke with the Chevy Chase location and was told they couldn’t comment but more info would likely be known next week.

Back in January we first learned Arcuri would be taking over the Kavanagh’s Pizza Pub space in Glover Park. After extensive renovations Arcuri will be soft opening next week with a grand opening June 22nd. (Lunch service should start around the 19th of June.)

“The Arcuri name is the namesake of owner, Bryce Gerlach’s great grandfather. Rosario Antonio Arcuri was born in Nicastro Italy on January 19, 1895.”

They’ll have 14 beers on tap including Bell’s Oberon, Racer 5, Founder’s All Day, DC Brau Public, Jack’s Cider, Troegenator, Ommegang Hennepin, Victory Love, Allagash Curieux, and more in bottles and cans. They’ll have a nice selection of wines and prosecco. Ah, I almost forgot – they’ll also have house made Limoncello (I took a taste yesterday and it’s awesome.) Maybe even better (I didn’t get a chance to try it but it sounds sweet) they’ll also have frozen house Limoncello and frozen berry limoncella.

As for the menu you can expect to find Salumi, Crostino, risoto, meatballs, prosciutto wrapped cod, wood fired pork chop, pollo al daviolo, and many pizza options. I stopped by yesterday afternoon for some photos have a look:
