A very good source hears that Chaia (vegetarian tacos) is looking to open up their first brick and mortar location in Georgetown. Their website says:

“We are honored to be nominated DC Tastemakers based on our innovative “plant-based” tacos. We sell them on a weekly basis at various markets and pop-up venues throughout DC. The Washington Post reported: “Trying to find the Chaia taco stand at the farmers market? Just look for the longest line.” We use fresh, locally sourced ingredients to create and inspire our menus each week. As one of the White House Pastry Chef’s tweeted after a meal from Chaia “these tacos are life changing and healthy too”.

All tacos are served with handmade corn tortillas, topped with microgreens and our special chipotle yogurt sauce.

From a press release:

All We Art, a venue specializing in contemporary Latin American artists working in a range of mediums, is pleased to introduce its public grand opening. Tierra de Gracia / Land of Grace: Venezuelan Contemporary Art will be on view beginning Friday, June 27, 2014, with a free, public reception from 6:00pm-9:00pm. The gallery is located at 1666 33rd Street, NW in Georgetown, Washington, DC.

All We Art’s founders are from Venezuela, so art lovers can expect a strong emphasis on artists and arts from that country. The opening group exhibition showcases artworks, in a variety of media, by artists Vivian Asapche, Alixia Alixia, Maria T. Aristeguieta, Ricardo Benaim, Antonio Briceno, Luis Brito, Reinaldo Certain, Matilde Cánepa González, Jesus Caviglia, Gaudi Esté, Takako Kodani, Pajaro, Marcos Pereira, Anrika Rupp, Lourdes Silva and Miguel VonDangel.

“With our passion for art and our love of Venezuela and its culture, it seems like a natural step to open the space with an exhibition focusing on the art of that country,” says Luisa Elena Vidaurre and Pablo Brito Altamira, co-founders. “We are excited to share with the Washington community the beautiful works we have discovered. It will truly be a worthwhile experience for any lover of art.”

The art space plans to hold future monthly shows featuring an international group of work with established names, as well as emerging artists, from Latin America. For more information about the gallery and the opening, please visit http://www.allweartstudio.com.”

1039 31st Street, NW

I’m told that Cafe La Ruche will be closing July 1st and Chez Billy Sud will open in the refreshed space in August.

From Chez Billy:

“Eric and Ian Hilton, Washington, D.C.’s hometown neighborhood restaurant proprietors, announce their latest venture: Chez Billy Sud, the sister to Chez Billy, the highly-regarded French bistro in Petworth. Chez Billy Sud is slated to open in August 2014 at 1039 31st Street NW.

Named “Sud” for its location to the south of the original Chez Billy in Petworth, the 3000 square foot restaurant and patio will offer classic French cuisine focusing on France’s southern regions.

Chef Brendan L’Etoile will preside over both locations as Executive Chef. Chef de Cuisine, Richard Wagner, will oversee day-to-day operations in Petworth while L’etoile prepares Chez Billy Sud for its August opening.

“Around the city, we have led the charge to bring great dining in burgeoning neighborhoods, Petworth among them,” said Ian Hilton. “While Georgetown is already very much on the map, we believe there is still room for growth when it comes to dining options.”

The restaurant will feature 60 seats for indoor dining, a 60-seat patio offering a full menu, as well as a full bar and French-focused wine list. Chez Billy Sud will serve lunch and dinner daily and offer weekend brunch on Saturday and Sunday. It will be dark on Mondays to give the crew a much-needed day of rest.”

3347 M Street, NW

Still scuttlebutt at this point but a reliable source hears a Capriotti’s Sandwich Shop is coming to the former Philadelphia Cheesesteak Factory space in Georgetown. Capriotti’s opened their first DC location at 1800 M Street, NW in Nov. 2013:

Capriotti’s Sandwich Shop, founded in Wilmington, DE and long a favorite of Delaware beach-goers, expands its presence on the East Coast as it opens its first location Thursday, November 21 in the Nation’s Capital at 18th and M Streets NW.”

Anyone check out the 18th and M Street spot yet? If so, any good sandwich recs? How do they compare to a Taylor Gourmet or Potbelly?

Well the home of the $1000 Golden Opulence Sundae is no more. Serendipity 3 has closed in the prime corner of Wisconsin and M St, NW formerly home to Nathan’s before Serendipity 3.

Washingtonian noted the closure last week and also adds:

“Under Armour founder Kevin Plank recently bought the building…Rumors of the sports clothing store moving into Wisconsin Avenue and M Street, Northwest, have abounded since.”
