1829 M Street, NW

Thanks to a reader for sending word on this new spot coming to M Street, NW between 18th and 19th Streets. He writes: “Bringing the two snack trends together.” At first glance I thought it was going to bring yoga and cupcakes together, which would’ve pretty awesome too. YOCAKE will feature frozen yogurt and cupcakes. You can see their menu here.

1323 Connecticut Ave, NW

Yesterday we learned that Astro Doughnuts and Fried Chicken will be opening in January at 1308 G Street, NW. Sounds like a very similar set up (with craft beer) is coming to the former Yola space at 1323 Connecticut Ave, NW in Dupont. From GBD Fried Chicken + Doughnuts’ facebook page:

GBD (which gets its name from the restaurant kitchen shorthand for golden, brown and delicious) will be the destination for fresh gourmet doughnuts and flavorful fried chicken when its doors open to Washingtonians this winter.

The husband and wife team of Chef Kyle Bailey & Pastry Chef Tiffany MacIsaac of Birch & Barley will be pairing their sweet & savory specialties alongside an impressive craft beer list from Greg Engert and a selection of spirited punches.

Located just south of Dupont Circle, GBD will pull triple duty –breakfast, lunch and dinner– every day of the week. In the morning, guests will find a bright and cheery spot to enjoy one of MacIsaac’s fresh homemade doughnuts with a cup of coffee from premium craft roaster Mad Cap coffee. Fried chicken and a selection of sides will take center stage at lunchtime, while the evening will see the addition of appetizers to the menu and beer, wine and cocktails to the beverage selection.

Back in late Aug. we learned:

“Detectives from the Metropolitan Police Department’s Sexual Assault Unit announced that an arrest has been made in regard to a series of sexual assaults that occurred in the area of Dupont Circle.”

ANC 2B09 Commissioner (Elect) Noah Smith updates:

“Unfortunately, the judge sentenced Mr. Carnejo-Pena to 180 days of jail time for each count to be served concurrently, as opposed to consecutively. He was also sentenced to three years of probation, mental health counseling, and ordered to stay away from the victims and the Dupont Circle neighborhood.”

1337 Connecticut Ave, NW

Back in May Heritage India closed at 1337 Connecticut Ave, NW just south of Dupont Circle. A new tavern called The Gryphon will be taking over the space according to a recent liquor license application:

New Tavern serving light fare. Entertainment with dancing and DJ. Seating capacity of 175, Occupancy Load of 192, and Sidewalk Café with 24 seats.”

In early Oct. Heritage India opened a new location in the former Skewers space above Cafe Luna at 1633 P Street, NW.
