“ANNOUNCEMENT: Black Fox Lounge will be closing effective Jan 1, 2015. La-Ti-Do programming in 2015 will continue, but we are actively looking for a new space. We’ve been nothing but thankful for Black Fox and we will sorely miss it. Obstacles are inevitable, but together we will find La-Ti-Do in DC a new home for the new year and beyond. Any questions/suggestions should be directed to [email protected] and we will gladly welcome any and all messages.

Transgender Female Sexually Assaulted in Dupont, MPD Seeks Suspect

“The Metropolitan Police Department is seeking the public’s assistance in locating and identifying a suspect in connection with the First Degree Sexual Abuse that occurred in 1600 block of R St., Northwest.

On Thursday, November 27, 2014, between 6:30 pm and 7:00 pm, a transgender female was in the 1600 block R St., NW, where she was approached by the suspect who sexually assaulted her.

The suspect is described as a white male in his 20’s, 6’1” to 6’3” in height, slim build, blond shoulder length hair, last seen wearing a dark blue hoodie, blue jeans, with grey, black and red Nike cross training sneakers and a college graduate ring on the right index finger.

Anyone who has information regarding this case should call police at 202-727-9099. Additionally, information may be submitted to the TEXT TIP LINE by text messaging 50411.”

“The annual tree lighting ceremony organized by Historic Dupont Circle Main Streets (HDCMS) and sponsored by La Tomate is this Thursday. More than 1000 lights and oversized ornaments were used to decorate this beacon at the corner of Connecticut Avenue, NW and R Street, NW in front of La Tomate restaurant.

Community citizens will join this special occasion on Thursday, December 4, 2014, at 6:00 pm to light the 20-foot Christmas Tree and usher in the holiday season aided by Santa, his elves and a choir of youth voices. Children from Ross Elementary School will sing carols from 5:30-6:00 to welcome dignitaries and Kris Kringle.

Santa Claus will be on hand for photos with children and those young at heart – free of charge – from 4:00-7:00 p.m. All children will be given a candy cane – if they have been good throughout the year. Complimentary vin chaude (mulled wine) will be provided by La Tomate to those of age. The public is invited to bring their own cameras, and photos taken by HDCMS will be uploaded on the Dupont Circle Main Streets Facebook the next day. A $20 gift certificate to La Tomate Caffe’ will be awarded to the most spirited photo shared on social media with the hashtag #LaTomateTree. This event is free and open to the public – snow or shine. A 10% discount off the dinner bill will be offered to those dining at La Tomate that evening.”

Pedestrian Hazard: “Cars Making Left Turns onto 17th & Swann from New Hampshire”

“Dear PoPville,

I’ve lived at 16th/V for 8 years — commuting by foot to and from work every day down New Hampshire to Dupont — and I’ve noticed a disturbing increase in the number of cars that, while they have a green light to continue straight down New Hampshire towards Dupont Circle, take the liberty of making a left-hand turn down 17th, which has a red light and a walk signal for pedestrians. Pretty much every other day I have to be on high-alert when using that crosswalk to make sure no drivers are barreling through that red light and into the crosswalk during the walk signal.

I wonder if other people have experienced this? Any ideas on what to do about this?”

Thanks to a reader for sending word about Yafa Grille’s (Shawarma•Falafal•Pita) new signage in the former PoBoy Shop space on 19th Street just north of M Street. A quick update from the owner – they have made a lot of progress and will open just after Thanksgiving “hopefully before mid December.”

“Lindsay Autry, who placed third in Bravo TV’s ninth season of “Top Chef,” has joined the Firefly team as Executive Chef. Her most recent positions included Executive Chef roles at the Sundy House and the Omphoy Ocean Resort in Palm Beach, Florida. Autry graduated from Johnson & Wales University and honed her skills under James Beard Award-winning Chef Michelle Bernstein with positions at Azul at the Mandarin Oriental in Miami and MB in Cancun, eventually leading to the Executive Chef role at Michelle Bernstein Restaurant at the Omphoy.

A native of North Carolina, Lindsay describes her cuisine as soulful, embracing Mediterranean flavors while blending in her Southern roots​. Autry’s goals for Firefly include building on the restaurant’s reputation as a neighborhood gathering spot and creating approachable cuisine with a focus on conscientious sourcing and seafood. She plans on taking the next several weeks to settle in at Firefly’s kitchen and will unveil new menus in 2015.”
