Check Out the Huge OKI Ramen & Sake Sign – Now Open on M Street in former Sala Thai space

Back in September we learned that Oki Ramen was going to replace Sala Thai’s small lower level space on M Street just off Connecticut Ave. It’s tough to be noticed in a lower level spot so it looks like Oki Ramen is taking the opposite tact of Denson Liquor Bar – Check out their huge sign. It’s taking a bit longer than a “few weeks” to open but should be soon. Stay tuned.

DGS Delicatessen celebrating 2 year anniversary Saturday

“DGS Delicatessen and Specialty Bar celebrates its two-year anniversary Saturday, November 15th.

To mark the occasion, DGS is bringing together some of our favorite chefs, artisans and farmers. The list of guests includes meat farmer extraordinaire Bev Eggleston, visionary chef Jeremiah Langhorne, gelato wizard Robb Duncan, bread master Mark Furstenburg and vegetable guru Steve Turnage.

Together, they will cook a special family style menu: Mark Furstenburg’s challah with “everything” butter, surf and turf deviled eggs with Bev Eggleston’s chicken cracklings and trout roe, Jeremiah Langhorne’s braised beef shank with fresh coriander and crispy onions and housemade chocolate babka with Robb Duncan’s crookneck pumpkin gelato.

“FIESTA restaurant on Connecticut ave has closed last month & this Friday became an American bar & lounge called the Manor DC.”

Manor DC’s website says:

Heritage India’s P Street Location has Closed in Dupont

Heritage India opened in the former Skewers space above the then Cafe Luna back in Oct. 2012. [Cafe Luna briefly became Malgudi’s and then Cafe Mirasol.]

I called Heritage’s Glover Park location and they confirmed P Street had closed but didn’t go into detail. Will update when more info is known and/or a new tenant opens up.

Fire at 1509 17th Street, NW – Most of Serious Damage appears Limited to 3rd Floor – Status of Komi Unknown

“I live across the street from Komi and woke up to a huge fire on the top floor of the Komi building at 1509 17th Street. There’s speculation that a rooftop terrace caught on fire but there’s no way to be sure right now. DC fire department responded in force and quickly put it out. DCFD responded around 9 am this morning.”

I stopped by around 12:30pm and it looked like most of the damage was on the third floor. Komi has one small broken window (maybe to access the space?) Still not clear how significant that damage is on the inside but from outside it didn’t look too bad but obviously there could be serious water damage too. Updates as soon as they’re known. Thanks to all who emailed and tweeted us photos and info.
