Finally the news about the Neighborhood Restaurant Group’s plans for the former GBD spaceRed Apron Burger Bar!

burger

The Washington Post reports a mid-January opening:

“The burgers will be built from the meat of grass-fed or grass-fed-and-grain-finished cattle only. There will be no patties with beef from grain-fed cows. The price of the burgers will reflect the provenance of the meat: A single, 3-ounce patty will cost $5.85; a double-meat burger, $8.95. Anda is still pricing out the cost of the burger with meat from the grass-fed Ancient White Park steer.”

From an email:

“After months of anticipation, we are excited to reopen the doors of Dupont Underground to the public for tours. Since the success of Raise/Raze creative minds have been inspired by the potential of this 75,000 sq/ft space. These tours will explore the living history and conceptual reinvention of a DC hidden gem. Each tour will consist of a guided hour long experience through the tunnels under Dupont Circle, that once served as the neighborhood trolley system over fifty years ago. Tickets are $15 per person.

Due to the nature of the space, we are limiting the tours to 30 persons, including children. All children must have tickets, so that we may maintain the correct occupancy limits. Children under 12 should be accompanied by an adult at a ratio of no more than 3 children to 1 adult.

The Dupont Underground is a raw industrial space made of hard, uneven surfaces and old and decomposing materials. Please respect the space and explore at your own risk.

Please note: Our official address is 1900 Massachusetts Avenue NW, but our entrance is at New Hampshire Avenue in front of 11 Dupont Circle.

Last time we opened we limited people to just the 15,000 sq ft platform. This time people are seeing the whole space. And we have some surprises along the way…I will say there is an installation at the end of the south tunnel called the iGlow by an artist Hiroshi Jacobs that most have never seen.

Thanks to One Medical sending from their Dupont office:

“One morning we heard a commotion and a couple of pigeons flew into the glass windows (unscathed). We looked out to see that we had a special guest!”

Hawk or Falcon?

That was fast. My tears have not yet dried after learning of STK’s demise and our dreams of a California Pizza Kitchen revival are no more as well according to this BISNOW report (thanks to those who emailed links):

“City Tap House will open its second location in the 9,300 SF space on the corner of Connecticut and N Street NW, where STK moved just two and a half years ago.

City Tap House signed a 15-year lease, Brookfield’s Dave Bevirt tells Bisnow, and the restaurant will open this spring.”

Philly original, City Tap House opened their first DC location at 901 9th Street, NW in the former 901 Restaurant and Bar in late 2013. You can check out their Menus here. Updates as they get closer to opening.

Washingtonian reports:

“Two-and-a-half years after bare-midriff models in short skirts graced its red-carpet opening party, the DC location of “Not Your Daddy’s Steakhouse” STK is closing. Its last day will be December 17, a receptionist confirmed.”

Now can we bring back Californian Pizza Kitchen? No offense to Casa Nonna of course. Actually an All Purpose Pizzeria would kill here!! Stay tuned.

From a press release:

“The American Geophysical Union (AGU) today announced formal approval from its Board of Directors to undertake a $41.7 million complete renovation of its 62,000-square-foot headquarters building, located in the Dupont Circle neighborhood. AGU is aspiring to be the first organization in the District of Columbia to renovate an existing commercial building to achieve net zero goals.

AGU is an organization dedicated to advancing science and ensuring a sustainable future. Recognizing that the aging building and infrastructure would require a major renovation after 20 years of service, AGU seized upon an opportunity to lead by example. In addition to creating a welcoming and collaborative space for its members and the D.C. community that would facilitate the understanding of Earth and space science, the organization chose to design and engineer the modernization of the building to meet net zero goals. In so doing, AGU will be able to showcase real-world scientific advancement through innovative sustainable technology. The project is expected to be a model for reducing the carbon and environmental impacts of business operations in a cost-effective and replicable way. (more…)
