Ed. Note: Last week we noted renovations coming to Number Nine in Logan Circle. Presumably we’ll see many more as guidance comes on how bars/restaurants may reopen with social distancing?

a reader reports:

“Around 0845 this morning there was what sounded like an explosion in an alley way on R Street and 16th NW. There is currently significant police activity around the alley and there is a garbage truck stuck in the alley surrounded by what appears to be black soot/residue. The sanitation workers looked pretty shaken up but physically looked ok (save any hearing issues).”

“Soldiers Outside the Soviet Safeway”

“Dear PoPville,

Do you know why there have been two soldiers and DC police outside Safeway on 17th Street NW past couple of days?”

Ed. Note: We’ve noted a National Guard presence at some NPS run parks but this is the first report we’ve gotten from outside a business. I’m guessing they are just helping police enforce the ‘you must wear a mask’ before entering a grocery store rule. Anyone else see the National Guard posted at spots besides parks?
