Spotted what looks like refrigeration/cooking equipment going into the space next to Fro Zen Yo in Columbia Heights but no obvious signage.. Anyone know what’s opening there?”
This is none other than another Jimmy John’s which is coming to the former Julia’s Empanada space.
Ed. Note: Jimmy John’s 14th and U Street location should open this week. Seems Jimmy John’s has fully absorbed the great Quiznos vacuum of ’14…

From MPD:
“At approximately 2:00 am [Sunday], members of the Metropolitan Police Department were in the 700 block of Park Rd. N.W. and observed a robbery that was in progress. The suspect, an adult male, was subsequently placed under arrest.”
Props to the cops for real but this was a bit of a softball…

“The Metropolitan Police Department and the Department of Transportation would like to inform the public of intermittent street closures in conjunction with “Sundress Fest” May 1, 2016.
The following streets will be closed on May 1, 2016, from 8:00am to 9:00pm:
Kenyon Street NW from 11st Street to 13th Street NW
*Note: local traffic will be allowed when safe to do so, only at the direction of a Police or Traffic officer.”
Holy moly I can’t believe this is the 12th one – while it’s always fun in the sun, if it rains I’m guessing this one could be one for the ages!!
We have some exciting new change to this years event – A Beer Tent on the street!!! We have finally secured an alcohol license for the day so we’ll have Kenyon blocked off. In addition we will have a few food trucks and the stage is going to be much bigger this year as well.
We are also going to have music/events starting at 11 am. Below is a rough overview of the day:
-Event kick off intro – 11 am
– Karaoke
-live music
-DC Central Kitchen
– Sundress competition -3:30/4pm

“The Metropolitan Police Department’s Criminal Investigations Division, Sexual Assault Unit seeks the public’s assistance in identifying and locating a suspect in connection with a First Degree Sexual Abuse offense that occurred in the 2500 block of 12th Street, Northwest.
On Sunday, April 24, 2016, at approximately 1:15 am, the suspect approached the victim from behind, forced her into an alley, and sexually assaulted the victim.
The suspect is described as a Hispanic male in his early 30’s with facial hair stubble, approximately 5’ tall, athletic build, wearing dark clothing with long pants and a backwards cap.
Anyone who has information regarding this case should call police at 202-727-9099. Additionally, information may be submitted to the TEXT TIP LINE by text messaging 50411.”

“Just wanted to mentioned that Target has installed self-checkout registers. I was amazed yesterday that there was no crazy lines or confusion. It worked out well and people came in and out of the store quickly happily.”

This is an odd one.
For the second time this month, someone has left a bag of rotting food (usually a variety of fruit but this time also a bagel!) by the back door of my basement apartment on the 1300 block of Monroe St. This mystery person walks passed our garbage cans, up the parking pad, and down a set of step to drop off these “packages” near our back door. My landlord suggests calling the cops but I’m pretty sure they would laugh me off phone since this probably only counts as littering.
I’m curious if this has happened to anyone else in Columbia Heights or if I’m just lucky.”
