“Dear PoPville,

I’m asking for anyone that witnessed a hit and run tonight, Wednesday, at 6:06pm contact me, I could use your help in identifying the other driver. I was in a small black Ford at 13th Street NW and Fairmont NW and went through the intersection when a green Nissan Sentra hit me full on. I pulled over to help clear the intersection, but she sped off. Thanks for your help!”

If you have any info please email [email protected] and I’ll put you in touch with OP.

“was woken up by 5 gunshots near 13 and belmont NW around 3/4 AM. Anyone else?”

Update: Confirmed by Jennifer Bristol, Commissioner, ANC 1B06:

“MPD was able to confirm that there were reports of multiple gunshots at 13th St NW and Clifton St NW and there was property damage at 1307 Clifton St NW as a result of the gunshots. Because (luckily) no one was injured and there were no known suspects, a crime alert wasn’t sent out.”

Coffy Cafe opened up back in 2012. I believe ownership changed a few months ago or so. The liquor license placard says:

“A Retailer’s Class “D” Restaurant serving crepes, sandwiches and small plates with Total
Occupancy Load of 37 with seating for 37. Requesting an Entertainment Endorsement to provide live entertainment, with Cover Charge.”

You can see their menu here.

a pothole

“Dear PoPville,

What can we do about the massive pothole issue on 11th Street NW between U and Florida Ave corridors (northbound), and also 11th Street NW between U and T (southbound)? It’s a minefield but also the route that I use every day because it’s the best route for bike commuting. If something doesn’t happen soon, I propose that citizens take it into their hands and start tagging each pothole that needs attention by drawing something ridiculous… so the city will finally pay attention to the safety and conditions of these streets that are regularly used! You can’t be a zero vision – bike friendly city without maintaining your infrastructure!”

Ed. Note: Potholepalooza usually kicks off early April.

From an email:

“Encounter Church is hosting a Halloween costume drive for neighborhood kids and families next fall. Our goal is 100 costumes for kids of all ages. We will collect, sort, label, and store the costumes until next year when Georgia Avenue Thrive will distribute them. Instead of throwing your costume away or hiding in the back of your closet, donate it now and it will be ready for next year! Drop off Sundays between 8 am and 12 pm at Encounter Church (we meet in Columbia Heights at the GALA Tivoli Theatre, 3333 14th Street NW). You can also e-mail [email protected] to arrange drop off.”

“We found this cute little dog this morning around 6:15 a.m. in the intersection of Holmead Place NW and Monroe Street NW. We brought it home, fed it breakfast and made a bunch of flyers and posted them around the neighborhood. This little guy is very sweet, has a collar, but no ID. I took him to the NY Avenue Humane Rescue Alliance this morning. He is not chipped. If you know who he belongs to please let them know where he is. Thanks.”
