“I’m writing to share the news that Sticky Fingers, D.C.’s original vegan eatery in Columbia Heights, will debut a modernized look and streamlined menu later this month. The award-winning bakery and cafe from Doron Petersan received a 2017 Great Streets Small Business Grant, and will put that investment toward the revived space. The grant is part of a competitive program that supports economic development in 13 corridors throughout the district, and assists small business owners in improving their storefronts and surrounding neighborhoods. On Thursday I asked what is this ridiculousness? seen in the photo below. It was a huge fence only facing one side and it was ridiculous. So many questions. Anyway, on Saturday I saw the current set up of a now smaller fence and totally out of proportion giant door (photo above.) Many questions remain.

Shot in the dark for the owners of this lost pet:

So I was enjoying a late brunch on the patio of Napoli Pasta Bar Sunday afternoon (great brunch, by the way), lazily watching the Sherman Avenue traffic roll past in the wilting heat, when a black truck turning left on Girard Street catches my eye — and I’ll be damned if there isn’t a long, white ferret dangling out the passenger-side window. The passenger, it seemed, was stone asleep, and the driver apparently unaware of the critter trying to make its escape. The truck makes its turn, disappears up the street, and the next thing I see is a white furry face peeking out from behind the wheel of a parked car — the little guy made his escape. (more…)

please be aware MY SPANISH IS NOT PERFECT AND I MIGHT BE WRONG, but…. fyi-

I am dog sitting right now so this morning on our walk I stopped by my apartment to say hi to my cat. on my way out of the building (6:45a) there were four police officers just standing there, waiting to get into the building. no sense of urgency whatsoever, so obviously no one had called them. and at 6:45a they’re clearly trying to surprise someone. after they said hello, I expressed my surprise at seeing four cops outside my building, and I let them in.
