Cracked Eggery officially opens in Cleveland Park, opening in Shaw later this Fall/early Winter

Thanks to all who sent word about Cleveland Park’s Cracked Eggery soft opening yesterday. Today it’s official: “Cleveland Park OPENING on Friday 9/10 // 7am – 3pm”

And thanks to Eli for sending the new signage going up at the Shaw location. I’m told they should be opening late Fall/early Winter. (more…)

“Norton Gives National Park Service Deadline on Decision on Changing the Name of Melvin Hazen Park, Will Introduce Bill to Change Name if Necessary”

From Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton’s office:

“Last Monday, Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton (D-DC) sent a letter giving the National Park Service (NPS) until August 31, 2021, to make a final decision on whether it will change the name of Melvin Hazen Park in the District of Columbia and informing NPS she will consider introducing legislation to change the name if NPS has not made a final decision by then. In February, Norton asked NPS to change the name of the park because Hazen helped demolish the African-American community in the D.C. neighborhood then known as Reno City. In response, NPS said that it needed to take more time to examine whether it has the authority to change the name, and if does have such authority, whether it should change the name.

Readers report: “anyone else hear a dozen gun shots in Cleveland park around 1:40?? Lots of sirens around macomb and 34th area…”

“police and Secret Service have a whole section blocked off by John Eaton School.”

Update from MPD: “Shooting in the 3400 block of Macomb Street N.W. No look out”

From Alert DC “MPD reports the intersection at 34th and Macomb Streets NW is closed due to police activity until further notice. Please seek an alternate route.”
