Yesterday two very close sources told me that Fado would be closing permanently. I haven’t seen confirmation yet on Fado’s social media or website but this afternoon someone shared the following public Facebook post from someone seemingly very much in the know:

“FADO

22 years to the day that Fado opened in Chinatown DC (March 16, 1998), we closed our doors to Coronavirus on March 16, 2020. This week, that closing became permanent. (more…)

Back in December we learned that Howl at the Moon would be taking over the old Ping Pong Dim Sum space in Chinatown. They’ve now posted a liquor license placard that says:

“A dueling piano bar with a live music concept offering a menu of traditional bar food and a full- service bar. Applicant requests to add an Entertainment Endorsement with Dancing and Cover Charge. Total Occupancy Load of 500 with seating for 450.” (more…)

The cashier tells me Bed, Bath & Beyond’s last day will be June 1st. For the curious, I came away with a decent kitchen knife for 5 bucks. I got my eye on a vacuum cleaner but I’m gambling on a deeper discount – they were only at 30% last weekend. The world market had some Icelandic row but I wasn’t ready to take that 2 buck gamble… (more…)

“Metro announced today the selection of Stonebridge and Rockefeller Group to redevelop its downtown DC headquarters site, the Jackson Graham Building (JGB), in the heart of the District’s Gallery Place commercial and entertainment area.

The developer will reposition the building – keeping the current Jackson Graham Building (JGB) structure – and reimagine it as a mixed-use commercial development, including the addition of three floors to the structure. The deal will generate long-term revenue for Metro through annual payments over the term of the 99-year ground lease agreement. (more…)
