g9-route

A reader reports:

“Just wanted to share with you and fellow readers, from Kenyon McDuffie’s facebook page last night.

“The G9 is on schedule to begin service on Rhode Island Avenue in March 2017.

The G9 will run the entire east-west length of Ward 5 along Rhode Island Avenue and connect downtown on the same route the G8 takes.”

It looks like the new G9 route got approved and will start running in March 2017. Not sure of the exact route/stops, but this is great news for ward 5 residents as it will connect Rhode Island Ave to downtown via a direct bus route. Awesome for Woodridge/Langdon/Brookland residents!”

From an email:

“The neighborhood restaurant Brookland’s Finest, co-owned by Tony Tomelden, John Solomon and chef/partner Shannan Troncoso, is getting close to selling their 30,000th Colonel Burger. The sandwich, named for Colonel Brooks, who was an early 20th century developer of the Brookland neighborhood, is made with certified Angus beef, and topped with pickled onions, Tillamook cheddar, Applewood smoked bacon, and served on a brioche bun with a side of tempura onion rings. To celebrate, the restaurant will present the guest who ends up ordering the 30,000th burger (anticipated sometime this month) with a golden safety pin, and make a donation in their name to one of three charities — TAPS, the Tragedy Assistance Program for Survivors, the Washington Jesuit Academy, or a charity of the guest’s choosing.

“Dear PoPville,

I thought your readers might find the BZA submission for the Ward 5 family homeless shelter to be of interest. They are requesting multiple zoning exceptions including height, loading zone, and parking. Not sure where the other shelters’ plans are in their process, but if the board approves this, it could set the tone for zoning leniency with the other shelters’ plans. Needless to say, several neighbors are very unhappy with the exceptions. Can’t we build a shelter that contributes to the character of a neighborhood instead of being a monstrous eyesore?”

door-kick

A reader reports:

“Someone tried to kick in my door last night in Brookland. Luckily it’s pretty sturdy and the attempt was unsuccessful. ‘Tis the season…no harm done, just a little pissed and disgusted. Remind readers to be aware of their Xmas tree lighting, they can be seen as targets especially if its in close proximity of the front door. I typically shut mine off at night and close the blinds but last night I did not.”

Crazy. We’ve seen a lot of package thefts caught on film but this is a first.
