“Dear PoPville,

Soup Up is delicious and healthy and the owner was so nice. Donna started off Union Market and makes a few special soups a day. She left my friend and I try all of them and we got chili fiesta, and delicious accident. It’s right by ANXO and decorated to be light and airy. She makes tea and is planing to have juices and a brunch in the coming weeks.

I will definitely be back and you should check it out too! Kennedy street is looking great!”

A reader reports:

“Around 11:30PM last night, I heard what I thought was probably a couple of gun shots fired on the 800 block of Kennedy Street, NW. Shortly after a cop car came patrolling around, circled the block, and then came back around with its search light on – minutes later, dozens of cop cars joined in with their red and blue lights and I believe they followed a suspect into the back entrance of an apartment complex on Longfellow. I’m most surprised nothing has been reported on this and that there wasn’t an AlertDC notification about this situation.”

Ed. Note: I believe Alert DC notices/MPD reports are not automatically sent for shots fired, they are sent when somebody is hit by gunfire.

Finally some info and what’s coming to the former Straw, Stick and Brick space.

Patrick reports:

“5111 Georgia has a new sign up in the window, was driving by it this morning, looked like it said “Coming Soon, Pepperoni Chic,” I have seen a couple folks in there recently with what looked like a DCRA inspector too, and looks like they are pushing forward on it.”

I stopped by for some photos yesterday and this seems to have some potential:

“Iconic Pepperoni Roll of WV and Calabrese Pastas of Italy”

STAY TUNED.

“Dear PoPville,

My neighbor and I have been in a heated (ok, casual) debate about the north boundary of Petworth. The Brightwood Park and Petworth wikipedia pages give conflicting information for the north border of Petworth.

Brightwood south border according to brightwood park wiki page:

Emerson Street NW to the south.

Petworth north border according to Petworth wiki page:

to the north by Hamilton Street NW

Do you have any official take on this so we can stop the madness?”

OK, OK, OK, here it goes – when I moved to Petworth in 2003 most folks I spoke to said that the north border of Petworth was firmly considered Kennedy Street though some people pushed it all the way to Missouri. From Kennedy Street to Missouri was considered Brightwood Park and north of Missouri was/is Brightwood proper. So, by order of the Prince of Petworth I officially declare the northern boundary of Petworth to be Kennedy Street, NW. Having said that, call it what you will – you people drive me crazy : ) As for the southern border

“Dear PoPville,

Just wondering if anyone else heard 4 gunshots around 2am Saturday night on 9th St NW between Kennedy and Jefferson? They woke me out of my sleep and sounded like they were right outside of my window. By the time I rolled over to call 911 the cops had shown up on the scene (within about 5 minutes), possibly because they were parked around the corner and heard them. Their sirens weren’t on. The cops walked the block for about 15 minutes, but seemingly didn’t see anything, so left shortly thereafter.

I sometimes wonder whether [insert whatever word you want for a person who would do this] shoots randomly in one location to lure cops to that location and away from whatever corner or location the cops are parked at in order to engage in some illicit activity. Is this possible?

I can’t figure out the point otherwise. I didn’t hear any shouting, running and it doesn’t appear anyone or anything was shot. I thought maybe I heard a car drive away, but couldn’t be sure.”
