From MPD:

“The Fourth District’s Crime Suppression Team conducted a stop of the below individual after observing him in the 5000 block of Illinois Avenue NW. The Team had prior knowledge that the individual was wanted in a shooting that occurred on February 7th, 2019 on the Starlight Parking Lot located in the 5400 block of 5th Street NW. At approximately 4:50 pm, a group of males drove up onto the parking lot and engaged in a shoot-out that resulted in property damage only. Both groups fled the scene. (more…)

“Saturday night around 8:15pm I heard shouting outside my house then heard sirens and looked out to see an SUV stopped in front of my house with a man (the driver of the SUV) out of the car shouting on a phone. The police arrived immediately and pulled the passenger from the SUV. He was in bad shape with blood coming out of his mouth. The paramedics performed CPR and took him away quickly. The police detained, then arrested the driver as there was a warrant out for his arrest. The forensics team showed up and took a bunch of photos of the scene. I spoke with the detective afterward, who informed me that MPD was investigating a shooting farther up north on Georgia Avenue. The driver apparently was driving his wounded friend to the hospital when ‘things went south’ and he stopped responding. The driver called 911 from the SUV and stopped in front of my house to meet the paramedics. We don’t know what happened to the victim. It didn’t look good.”

Ask and you shall receive. Thanks to Betsy for suggesting from this morning’s rant/revel post:

“Does anyone know what’s going on with 1210 Kennedy St NW? (I think it’s 1210 – it’s on Kennedy between 13th and Georgia, much closer to Georgia.) What looks like a two-story pop-up is being built on top of the existing townhouse. I thought that wasn’t allowed anymore? I’m not criticizing/complaining, just honestly curious.”

Readers reported:

“I was in the middle of the crossfire with my 21 month old daughter at the time when this happened. We were driving to Walmart on Georgia I slowed down at the intersection of 5th and Kennedy to ensure no one was crossing the street. I heard gunshots and saw people ducking and running. I have never felt or seen anything like that before in my life.”

“I was home at the time with my 5 year old daughter who was too sick to go to school today. I heard the shots and immediately got her and myself on the ground. She couldn’t understand what was happening.”

“The fact that we have to explain to our kids that this just a normal thing is INSANE!! The police do walk the area, they do patrol Kennedy, this is not on them. There needs to be more done, and please lets not have another safety walk.”

From MPD:

“Detectives from the Metropolitan Police Department’s Fourth District seek the public’s assistance in identifying several persons of interest and a vehicle in reference to an Unlawful Discharge of a Firearm offense that occurred on Thursday, February 7, 2019, in the 5400 block of 5th Street, Northwest.

At approximately 3:44 pm, the suspects discharged firearms at the listed location. The suspects then fled the scene. (more…)
