Arrest Made in last month’s daytime “shoot-out” at 5th and Kennedy in the Starlight Parking Lot

“The Fourth District’s Crime Suppression Team conducted a stop of the below individual after observing him in the 5000 block of Illinois Avenue NW. The Team had prior knowledge that the individual was wanted in a shooting that occurred on February 7th, 2019 on the Starlight Parking Lot located in the 5400 block of 5th Street NW. At approximately 4:50 pm, a group of males drove up onto the parking lot and engaged in a shoot-out that resulted in property damage only. Both groups fled the scene.

On Friday, March 22, 2019, 26-year-old Rodney Van Walls Jr, of Southeast, DC, was arrested and charged with Assault with a Dangerous Weapon (Gun), Unlawful Discharge of a Firearm (Gun), and Destruction of Property.

Reminder: Arrests do not constitute guilt in the criminal justice system. Subjects will have an opportunity to defend these charges a court of law”
