Thanks to a reader for passing on from the Brightwood listserv:

“Chocolate Crust – Trying to stay in Business

As the owner of Chocolate Crust Bakery I want to thank you for letting us be part of your growing community for the past 20 months. I am also compelled to let you know that at this time the Bakery’s future is very uncertain as debts have piled up due to low sales.

Unfortunately, the recognition and notoriety that the Bakery has won in the community has not yet translated into the increased sales necessary to keep the Bakery’s doors open. The Cooking Channel program airing the 22nd this month will certainly result in a bounce in sales for us. However, a strategy needs to be in place to sustain the sales beyond that.

I am therefore asking for your input and what would you like to see from us. For example, what food products would provoke you and at what prices, and would you be interested in additional services such delivery, later hours or even classes? (more…)

A reader writes:

“Around 10 PM last night my husband and I heard between 9-12 gunshots outside our back window. Apparently two men were shooting at each other while running down Longfellow Street between 5th and 7th Streets. Police arrived quickly at the scene.

As you can see below, a car was damaged. Also bullets went through a window in one of the condo buildings on Longfellow.

From what I’ve heard, no arrests have been made. I’ll be emailing Bowser’s office as well as MPD to see what information they have. We will enhance patrols in the area.”

OP passes on response from MPD:

“Hello. I was advised no one was injured nor has anyone reported being shot at. We found shell casings and two cars were damaged. If anyone has information please let us know.”

“Dear PoPville,

One of our neighbors is running an unlicensed BBQ business in an alley near Kennedy Street and 8th NW. He has a giant smoker in his backyard, which runs most days (always on Saturday and Sunday) from 10-5 or so. Cars come and park, blocking the alley. Trash overflows from the cans in his backyard, attracting vermin. We have witnessed the owner and patrons relieving themselves in the street (not at the same time, fortunately). But worst of all is the smoke, which comes in our window and makes our entire place smell. We have complained to the DC police and our city councilperson multiple times. DCRA knows about it, and claim that the owners have even been fined once, but the grill just keeps on going. Any ideas? (And no, we have not tried the meat.) Thanks!”
