Rhode Island and North Capitol St

A reader reported around 4:30pm yesterday:

“not sure what happened or how each car ended up where they did, but this intersection is notorious for traffic violence and poorly planned. Very glad no pedestrians appear to have been hurt, as it is also one of the only spots to cross North Capitol Street. The city is aware of the issues with accidents here but favors commuters over the communities that surround it.”

“Dear PoPville,

My family has lived in our rowhouse for ten years. Recently, new neighbors moved in next door. They smoke pot indoors at all times of day and night, and whenever they do, it basically hotboxes my house. I don’t know exactly how the smoke gets in — we have an insulated attic and newish windows etc, but it smells extremely strong in the house and lingers. I’ve asked the neighbors politely about four times not to smoke indoors, most recently yesterday. My younger daughter has asthma, (more…)

Thanks to all who messaged me about this dangerous driving post yesterday – the victim reached out and shares the incredibly upsetting story:

My other daughter was in the stroller unharmed. A neighbor heard us screaming and saved us! They went on to hold another woman at gunpoint shortly after, and then crashed the car. (more…)

In a cellar speakeasy after dark, it’s fun to be a little naughty, so we thought we’d give Krampus his due and design our holiday pop-up around him for a change! (It’s still visually a holiday theme, of course.) Here’s a sample of the holiday cocktail menu (which in total is 18 cocktails): (more…)

Thanks to Ben for sending from Bloomingdale: “SNAKE in alley next to Crispus Attucks Park!”

We’ve seen lots of Black snakes (which are good – eat rats/mice etc.) but anyone know what type this is?

If you spot a hawk, any interesting wildlife or celebrity skateboarder Tony Hawk, and get a good photo please send in an email where you spotted them to [email protected]. Thanks! Hawks around Town is made possible by a generous grant from the Ben and Sylvia Gardner foundation.
