Thanks to a reader for sending: “I noticed the place was empty and then confirmed it with the owner.” Bummer. This turned into a nice Ethiopian option and happy hour spot over the years.

“Y’ALL! Good news!! Spoon is back!!!! Saw the Open sign on this evening, went in to talk to the owner. Soft reopening this week, official reopening next week. FroYo is out, mochi and bing su are in, bubble tea stays, more to come!!“

“Idle Time Books, an iconic neighborhood bookstore in Adams Morgan DC, will rename itself as Lost City Books. The new name, brand, and identity follows the retirement of founder Val Morgan and the sale of the bookstore in January 2019. While under new ownership, the store plans to remain in Adams Morgan indefinitely and is dedicated to remaining the neighborhood staple that Idle Time Books has been: a fantastic and idiosyncratic institution that proudly served the neighborhood for 36 years. “The following is a statement from Crawford Sherman, managing director of The LINE DC, on behalf of the hotels more than 300 employees:

The LINE DC and our more than 300 employees are grateful to the DC Council for keeping the hotel’s real estate tax abatement in place for future years, including eligibility for future reimbursement of 2019 & 2020 taxes which were misappropriated by the Council’s FY20 budget amendment. We are pleased to be granted due process and that the rules set forth by the Department of Employment Services will prevail. While compliance with 5 of the 7 provisions of our tax abatement have long been certified, we are eager for resolution of the remaining provisions overseen by DOES, with whom we have worked closely for the past four years. We are confident that the conclusion of this audit will show what we have said from the outset, that we have met all required provisions of the real estate tax abatement. (more…)
