The Craigslist ad says:

“Come see this spacious Two bedroom, One bath apartment conveniently located between Adam’s Morgan and Dupont Circle. This Apartment has hardwood floors, lots of light and generously-sized bedrooms (both bedrooms are comparable size, not a master and den/closet sized BR). Building does not have washer/dryer facility however, there is a laundromat two blocks away. Rent includes most utilities, even heat!”

Looks like this could be a good roomate option – this 2 bedroom is going for $1945. Sound right?

“Dear PoP,

Just wanted to give you and the readers a heads up. I was mugged Friday while walking back from the Mt. Pleasant Interim Library at the intersection of Argonne and Harvard, two streets I walk on a daily basis and I’ve considered to be a fairly safe area. The mugger was in his late teens or early twenties, black and seemed to have been on drugs. He blocked me from walking down the street and asked me what I was doing on the block. I tried to keep walking but he ended up chasing me halfway down the street where I stopped and surrendered my tote bag. Fortunately, all I had in the bag was a book and some DVDs I checked out from the library. After I gave him the bag and ran up the street back onto Harvard (in front of the Pica Taco) he actually followed me back up after awhile and then crossed the street and walked down Mt. Pleasant. I was able to recover my bag and all of my belongings except for the one dollar he stole from the bag. This was around noon, so it was in broad daylight. I have filed a police report.

This seemed to have been a random event but just a reminder for everyone to be cautious and to always let them have the bag!”

I always here MPD echo the same advice – always let the mugger have the bag or wallet or phone etc. But I often hear readers say they prefer to run and/or fight. Obviously I think it depends if a weapon is involved, where you are and other factors but I strongly agree with the reader and MPD’s advice – it is always smarter to “hand over the bag” rather than risk injury or worse for replaceable items.

Lot of news coming out of Adams Morgan this week. And even more BBQ news this week.

Yesterday I received a panicked email from a reader titled, “Asylum leaving top space?!” citing a brief City Paper post via The 42.

For those not familiar with Asylum it is one of the older bars in Adams Morgan located at 2471 18th St, NW that has been around since 1991 – from their Website:

Asylum offers a vegetarian/vegan friendly food menu, daily drink specials, an internet jukebox, and live entertainment in a low-key atmosphere. Happy hour runs from 5-8pm daily that includes $1 off rail drinks and draft beers, .50 wings and $1.50 tacos. Asylum offers meat selections as well, a great place to go to satisfy everyone’s palate.

Best known for the vegan brunch on Saturdays and Sundays, please come by from 11-4pm and enjoy the weekend chef specials and our house-made bloody mary’s, vegan huevos rancheros, pancakes and French toast. Voted best vegan brunch by VegDC.com and Best of Washington. The Saturday Natty Light countdown is legendary.

On Wed. afternoon I had the opportunity to talk with Asylum owner (and Meridian Pint owner) John Andrade to get all the details.

So first of all it is true that changes are on the way – Asylum will be rebranding the upstairs bar. But for those concerned that another jumbo slice purveyor would be filling the space, fear not, it is going to become a craft beer establishment featuring BBQ. But perhaps equally important is that Asylum the bar will remain in the basement space.

All the details including a chance to win a $1000 credit to the upstairs bar after the jump. (more…)

Violet Boutique located at 2439 18th St, NW in Adams Morgan opened up last weekend. This one is for the ladies – from their Web site:

With an incredible array of fashions and accessories, you can have it all at Violet.

Fashion should be fun. It’s about experimenting, trying new looks, and most importantly, being your best self. Above all else, I want every woman to leave Violet feeling beautiful in their own skin.

The space looks great and it’s nice to Adams Morgan add some retail to the eating/drinking options to 18th Street.

As always the photos will tell a better story:

We first learned that the Black Squirrel, located at 2427 18th Street, NW, would be opening up their basement bar back in May ’09. They official opened last Thurs. After visiting the new space last night, I can confidently say – it was worth the wait. The place looks fantastic with one of the biggest bars I’ve ever seen at nearly 56 feet.

The downstairs bar will be known at the Tap Room and as it sounds will offer tons of beer options. Though there are bar snacks (menu after the jump) if you want to order from their proper food menu – you’ll need to eat upstairs. As you would imagine with a 56 foot bar, downstairs, the focus is the beer. You can see their full beer list here. In the front of the space they’ll also be showcasing local musicians.

Anyone check it out yet?

I was eager to post this as a regular GDoN but I was shocked to see it is already under contract in only 4 days. I love the location but was surprised that it is only a 2 bedroom. This 2 bed/1.5 bath was listed for $650,000. Do you think it went for that?
